Thai energy drink (bottled), M-150, now on sale at Don Quijote stores nationwide
How long has it been since the Thai energy drink M-150 was released in Japan? I hadn’t seen it at all, but it looks like it will finally be available nationwide at Don Quijote stores starting in the second half of 2017.
Sales Begin at Don Quijote in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area from October 24, 2017
It seems that it was actually sold at some stores starting in December 2016. I had seen the press release, but after that, I didn’t come across it much.
Finally, sales began at Don Quijote stores in the Tokyo metropolitan area on October 24, 2017, and it is expected to be available at Don Quijote locations nationwide in Japan.
*Note: Not available at some stores.
What is M-150?
M-150 is an energy drink (nutritional drink) that was released in Thailand in 1985 and is incredibly popular. As expected, it is non-carbonated and is more like the nutritional drinks commonly found in Japan.
Recently, it has expanded beyond Southeast Asia and began selling in Japan in 2016. The nutritional drink market, including M-150, is said to be saturated in Thailand, and it seems that Japan may already be reaching its limit as well.
The catchphrase for M-150 in Japan is “It feels like I can manage anything when it counts,” which perfectly reflects the image of a nutritional drink. With topics like work-style reforms becoming a hot topic in Japan lately, it seems to go against the current trend, but what do you think?
The price is 120 yen, and the nutritional contents per 100ml are: Energy 70kcal, Protein 0g, Fat 0g, Carbohydrates 17.5g, Equivalent salt content 0.1g, Niacin 13.33mg, Vitamin B6 3.33mg, Vitamin B12 6.67μg, Caffeine 33.33mg.
The price seems reasonable as it is in the same price range as other major nutritional drinks.

After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
