Monster Energy, Asahi Beverages Begins Production at Their Own Factory. New Facility Established and Strengthened with 3.3 Billion Yen Investment at Gunma Factory

The sales of Monster Energy in Japan have been continuously growing. In 2018, the sales volume was about 1.3 times higher than the previous year, and in 2019, it maintained a double-digit increase. In response, Asahi Group Holdings has invested 3.3 billion yen in the Asahi Beverages Gunma factory.

It was announced that half of the production of domestically produced Monster Energy, which was previously outsourced, will now be handled in-house.

33 Billion Yen Investment, Introduction of Blending, Filling, and Packaging Equipment

The Gunma factory is a key plant in the Kanto region, responsible for producing 30 million cases annually of "Calpis" and "Calpis Water."

To start producing canned products, which had not been possible before, blending, filling, and packaging equipment have been introduced with a 3.3 billion yen investment.

Construction began in December 2018, with operations scheduled to start in January 2020. Once the can production line is operational, it is expected to be capable of producing 12 million cases annually.

Expectations Rise for the Return of Pipeline Punch and New Releases

Pipeline Punch, which was discontinued just a month after its release, had previously been announced with no specific timeline for its return, with only a statement saying "efforts are underway for a re-release." If this in-house production is linked to the return of Pipeline Punch, fans will be thrilled. Let's look forward to it!

Additionally, Monster Energy's sales have been significantly increasing in Asia, including Japan, and there are high expectations for future new releases. We can also look forward to unique releases tailored to Japan’s market and special campaign collaboration cans.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
