Citric acid
Effects of Citric Acid
Citric acid plays a role in energy conversion through glucose metabolism.
In the world of sports, citric acid has been said to help break down lactic acid and aid in fatigue recovery. However, research from the National Institute of Health and Nutrition has concluded that citric acid does not have a fatigue-reducing effect.
Experiments have yielded varying results, some showing a reduction in fatigue while others did not, so it cannot be definitively stated that citric acid has a clear fatigue recovery effect.
Citric Acid in Energy Drinks
Citric acid is commonly used in energy drinks to adjust the sourness. Energy drinks with a stronger sour flavor may contain more citric acid.
It's worth noting that citric acid is not considered an energy-boosting ingredient, but rather an ingredient for flavoring. It is widely used in various beverages, not just energy drinks.
For instance, citric acid is found in sour drinks like "Kirei Lemon" and also in sports drinks like "Aquarius." It is not considered a special energy ingredient.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
