Sodium
Sodium as an Ingredient
Sodium is present in nearly all energy drinks and other soft drinks. In simple terms, it is just salt. In Japan, it is listed as "ナトリウム" (sodium in German), whereas in international energy drinks, it is often written as "sodium". It is not considered an energy ingredient but rather just a common salt.
Interestingly, despite the differences in taste and food culture across countries, there is generally little difference in average sodium intake globally. Even with the increase in processed foods today, sodium intake remains relatively unchanged from the past.
Unless someone is consciously reducing their salt intake for health reasons, there is no need to worry about the sodium content in energy drinks.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
