PLAYBOY ENERGY DRINK (USA)

Posted on July 10, 2014 | Last updated February 21, 2025

PLAYBOY Energy Drink
PLAYBOY's energy drink. It's an intense energy drink in many ways.
It’s more in line with the essence of PLAYBOY compared to the Japanese version of the PLAYBOY energy drink (●´ω`●)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

The Can Design is Superb

The black can with the PLAYBOY logo glowing in gold. The can has faint text with some parts shining in gold.
The design exudes a sense of luxury and evokes the feel of nighttime fun (u_u*)

The drink inside is a deep yellow, with a sweet and familiar energy drink scent.
I thought it was just an energy drink-flavored juice with the brand name slapped on it...

PLAYBOY ENERGY DRINK (USA) Taste

PLAYBOY Energy Drink
The taste is sweet with a hint of acidity, the typical energy drink flavor, but the aftertaste and aroma bring a strong herbal or tea-like scent that sharply hits your nose.
My personal reaction was, "Ah, this isn't for me" (-_-;)
For a moment, I even thought it might be spoiled.

What kind of ingredients or flavoring could this have? (゚A゚;) *gulp*

Oh My God! It Contains Aphrodisiac Herbs!

PLAYBOY Energy Drink
After researching, I found out that...

It contains Epimedium Extract (Honey Goat Weed). This is an aphrodisiac herb, widely known for its use as a potency booster. Oh, they included this...!
In normal terms, it promotes nitric oxide production, so it can help with blood flow, which means it could be useful for enhancing muscle pumps during workouts.

Looking further at the ingredients...
It also contains Damiana. This is a natural aphrodisiac, often called the female version of Viagra, and it’s a very old herb.

At first, I thought it was some herbal tea with a rehab-like taste—like a Chinese medicine kind of drink. "Ugh, I can't handle this smell." But the PLAYBOY Energy Drink proved me wrong. They maintained their brand image in a bold and impressive way.

Now, looking at the liquid, it almost seems like a thick gold liquid, but I guess that’s just my preconceived notion (*ノω・*)テヘ

Love it or Hate it Taste

To be serious, the taste is sweet, with the energy drink flavor lingering, but the aftertaste becomes overwhelmingly herbal.
If you're sensitive to taste, the strong herbal scent will be very noticeable, which will divide opinions.

For people who dislike overly sweet energy drinks, the herbal note makes it feel refreshing and easy to drink, so some might actually say, "I can drink this," even though it's sweet. It depends on how the aftertaste impacts you.

The can design is great, and the herbal ingredients are fun as a novelty. It’s definitely an interesting product. There is also the Japanese version of the PLAYBOY Energy Drink, but unfortunately, it’s a more standard product and doesn't have this playful, jokey aspect. The packaging and contents are entirely different, and the manufacturer is also different.
Personally, I prefer the stylish feel and the humorous herbal ingredients in the American version of the PLAYBOY Energy Drink.

*Note: The caffeine and taurine content are unknown, but it’s believed to be quite low.*
