In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Chemical Fruit Mix Flavor
Upon opening, a fruity aroma fills the air. The official RAIZIN website describes it as "a refreshing spice accent in a gold energy flavor." Gold energy flavor!? Well, let's give it a try.
When you take a sip, you get the sweet and chemical taste of a fruit mix, similar to children's medicine, with a sharp ginger kick that tingles your nose.
There is no real fruit or fruit flesh sensation, just an artificial taste. The aftertaste is a pleasant sweet and sour fruit flavor, lingering without being overpowering. A slight taste of artificial sweeteners remains, but that's to be expected.
On the other hand, the flavor is mild enough that the unpleasantness of artificial sweeteners doesn't dominate, making the fruit mix medicinal flavor surprisingly easy to drink.
Up until now, flavors like RAIZIN Honey Lemon and RAIZIN Sakura have followed more conventional soda flavors, so perhaps they've returned to a more chemical flavor with Gold Free? In Japan, drinks that don't have the "energy drink flavor" tend to receive mixed reviews. Personally, I'd love to see them try real tropical fruit flavors or bitter fruit flavors like the zero-zero variants (*´艸`*)
Energy Ingredients of RAIZIN GOLD FREE
Zero caffeine, zero calories, and zero sugar—this is the triple zero. It also contains 1035mg of galangal extract, a ginger-derived ingredient found in Enextrac.
While it’s labeled as a caffeine alternative, it doesn’t seem to have the same effects as caffeine.
Design of RAIZIN GOLD FREE
The champagne gold can features a large orange RAIZIN logo, with the product name and other details placed at the top. The design has been updated with this release of RAIZIN GOLD FREE.
Personally, I preferred the previous design, as the beauty of the negative space was more prominent. (It reminds me of Rockstar's design change when it became a big star.)
The back features dark gray text on the gold can, giving it a calm and sophisticated feel. Overall, it gives off a stylish vibe.
Since there is no "Limited Edition" label, it seems safe to assume this is a regular product addition. According to the press release, it’s described as "the flagship product of the RAIZIN brand, born with the concept of a GOLD (bright) and FREE (freedom) energy drink to carve out a new era," so this Gold Free may become the main product going forward.

ライジンって何飲んでも同じような味でワクワク感がないんですよね。不味くないけど美味しいとまでは思えません。ゴールドフリーもこれまでと似たような味なのでお試しで買ってみて次は買わないです。

I'm a big fan of ginger beer, so I really liked the taste. But I bought it as an energy drink and didn't feel any boost in energy.
