In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Sweet Lemon without Fruit Juice
Opening the can releases a fresh lemon scent. The liquid is a calm yellow.
When I take a sip, the flavor is mildly sweet, with a fresh and tangy lemon taste that feels just like real lemon—so delicious~ (๑´ڡ`๑)
It's not a sharp citric acid taste, but a gentle, smooth tanginess coated with sweetness, making it very easy to drink. Before tasting, I thought it might be more lemon-like with a brighter yellow, but the mellow, calming acidity and smooth texture really match this color perfectly. The taste and color go hand in hand.
The aftertaste is light, leaving a faint lemon aroma and a slight hint of ginger spice. The overall feeling is gentle, which I think is because of the honey flavoring.
RAIZIN Honey Lemon doesn't pack a punch, and if you're looking for intense flavor in your energy drink, this might not be for you. However, as a "Honey Lemon" flavor, it successfully blends the taste, aroma, and color into one of my personal favorites from the RAIZIN lineup.
What's even better is that it contains zero calories, using only artificial sweeteners with no sugar. This natural sweetness is amazing.
If artificial sweeteners were to leave an obvious aftertaste, it would ruin the delicate Honey Lemon flavor. The fragrance is used so elegantly, helping to mask the sugar-free taste, and I’m really impressed by how well it’s done.
It’s a shame that RAIZIN Honey Lemon is a limited edition... Looking back at this review, I may have gone a bit overboard with the praise, but I truly think it’s one of the top-tasting sugar-free energy drinks released in Japan in 2020. It’s on a level that doesn’t need to be rated separately as sugar-free or sweetened. Please try it before it’s gone!
Flavor of RAIZIN HONEY LEMON Energy Ingredients
Caffeine-free, but contains 1035mg of Galangal Extract, a ginger-related ingredient.
The new RAIZIN series is distinguished by the inclusion of Galangal Extract as a substitute for caffeine, under the new "EnergXtra" concept. However, honestly, this doesn't make a huge impact—it’s more of a marketing point for the product, and there's no real effect when drinking it.
That said, as someone who regularly consumes energy drinks, it's refreshing to have a caffeine-free option, and the sugar-free aspect also makes it a welcome addition for those of us concerned about sugar overload. It’s quite unique, though.
Some people might say, “It’s not even an energy drink if there’s no caffeine, and it’s calorie-free,” but for those of us who’ve been drinking energy drinks daily, it’s nice to have a more gentle option like this. As an energy drink enthusiast, I don’t judge products solely based on their ingredients—there’s room for "Triple Zero" products to continue confidently, and RAIZIN can set a new standard with this.
Design of RAIZIN HONEY LEMON
The design features a lemon-inspired yellow gradient and floating lemons, highlighting the RAIZIN Honey Lemon look.
In the previous limited edition review for RAIZIN Sweety Red, I mentioned, “Since it’s a limited edition, it would be better if the design was a bit more elaborate.” This playful lemon design might be a reflection of that suggestion! Having this fun touch adds to the limited-edition feel, which is always appreciated by collectors.
The design is more subtle now, with clearer placement of logos like "Zero Zero Zero" and "EnergXtra," striking a balance between simplicity and elegance.
Also, there's now a "LIMITED EDITION" mark, reminiscent of international energy drinks. Well done (*´艸`*)
The year 2020 marked the second boom of energy drinks, and Japan's energy drink scene has been evolving rapidly. I hope RAIZIN continues to innovate and push forward, creating new releases and transformative changes.
