The Raizin Purple Wing, the third flavor since Taisho Pharmaceutical took over, is a surprising release. Despite being purple, it features a tropical fruit flavor, and despite its October release, it offers the refreshing taste of tropical fruits, which is quite unusual.

Although it’s called Purple Wing, the liquid inside is yellow. The color appears to be a typical, classic shade, but in reality, it’s a bright and transparent color with a refined appearance.

The taste is surprisingly free of the usual Raizin flavor and offers a tropical fruit punch. The refreshing sweetness of passion fruit, mango, and orange is delightful! The balance of the tropical fruit's acidity is well-adjusted, and there is no aftertaste left once you finish drinking. The fruit flavor is evident, and it has a satisfying body, but the overall lack of any strong aftertaste makes it easy to drink. (●´ω｀●)

At first, there was a slight medicinal taste, but it faded as I kept drinking.

The ingredients contain Raizin’s signature ginger extract, but there’s no spiciness at all, and the mild tropical fruit flavor has a taste reminiscent of the fruit mixes that Japanese people have enjoyed for years.

Unlike the more concentrated and high-juice tropical fruit flavors like M-80, RIPPER, PIPRLINE PUNCH, and ROCKSTAR JUICED, this one stands apart.

Purple Wing has a smooth, distinct flavor, but with a refreshing aftertaste, making it easy to drink. The 250ml can seems to disappear quickly. While the aforementioned thick, high-juice energy drinks are great for when you want a slow, indulgent drink, Raizin Purple Wing is perfect for grabbing from the fridge and drinking casually. If it were released in the summer, it would likely be a regular choice.

It contains 36mg of caffeine and ginger extract. Personally, I think the ginger restriction could be relaxed a bit...

This time, Raizin Purple Wing barely (if at all) carries the ginger flavor, and I think it would be better to make delicious flavors without ginger for future releases. Since this one turned out so well, I particularly feel this way.

That said, I still support the existence of bold, spicy, and unique flavors like the original Raizin (*´艸｀*)

Why Purple Wing?

When Purple Wing was announced, many might have thought it would be a grape-flavored drink. However, the label stating it’s a tropical fruit flavor confused quite a few people as well.

Few people would immediately recognize that Purple Wing’s tropical fruit flavor, based on its purple color, would taste like tropical fruits. Most would probably imagine grape, blueberry, or acai.

If Raizin, with its signature yellow can, were to come out with a tropical fruit flavor, it might be citrus-based.

Since the Purple Wing exceeded expectations with its taste, it would be interesting if Raizin continued to develop more approachable (non-spicy) delicious flavors in the series.
