In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Real Gold UltraCharge Lemon
The color is a cloudy yellow. It looks like it could contain fruit juice, but it actually doesn't. From the moment you open the bottle, the distinct chemical scent of Real Gold fills the air.
When you take a sip, you get a honey lemon-like sweet and sour taste mixed with a chemical flavor, which is exactly the lemon flavor of Real Gold. The aftertaste leaves a medicinal-like scent and the taste of artificial sweeteners, which may divide opinions.
Since it doesn't contain any fruit juice, it doesn't have an authentic lemon taste, and you can only enjoy the "lemon vibe." The main flavor is still the chemical taste, which is consistent across the Real Gold series. Personally, I think they could have gone all-in on the lemon flavor.
When you add ice, the flavor almost disappears, and the chemical taste and residue become more pronounced. While the color looks nice and elegant with the ice, the flavor fades away.
To enjoy it, it might be best to just chill it in the refrigerator. Adding too much ice will dilute the flavor, and you'll end up not knowing what you're drinking.
Energy Ingredients of Real Gold UltraCharge Lemon
This is a vitamin-based carbonated drink that doesn't contain caffeine. In addition to the familiar royal jelly from Real Gold, it also contains ginseng and BCAAs (valine, leucine, and isoleucine), but the amounts are unclear.
The use of the term "energy ingredients" is very Japanese, a light and easy-to-understand expression. Rather than trying to sound sophisticated or writing about effects that aren't really there, it's refreshing to have such a straightforward and easily recognizable image for a product that’s aimed at all age groups.
Design of Real Gold UltraCharge Lemon
This is a sustained-energy drink. Recently, many Real Gold products have been labeled as energy drinks.
By the way, after the release of UltraCharge Lemon, the Real Gold Dragon Boost, which was also marketed as "sustained energy," came out in a press release. Seems like the "sustained" keyword is quite popular, doesn't it?
Unlike the refreshing image of lemon, UltraCharge Lemon has a stronger chemical flavor. If you buy it expecting a tangy and refreshing lemon flavor, you might be disappointed.
The bottle cap features the Real Gold logo. The freedom to add colors and logos to the cap on plastic bottles is a nice touch.
Will Real Gold continue with its distinctive chemical flavor in future products? Personally, it feels like every flavor gets infused with the Real Gold flavor, so the taste doesn't change much. I would like to see a more distinct flavor for each new product and hope the next release will offer something different.
