Upon opening the can, a sweet cotton candy aroma fills the air. The color of the drink is a vibrant sky blue, something not typically found in nature. Now, let’s give it a taste.

When I take a sip, the sweet cotton candy scent accompanies a tangy flavor reminiscent of sour cherries, sour berries, and sour apples.

The "vanilla" flavor mentioned in the product name isn't very prominent, and much like the full-sugar version, the cotton candy flavor is the dominant note.

The major difference between this and the full-sugar version is the clear shift towards a tangy flavor profile, thanks to the removal of the sweetness.

By eliminating the sweetness, the balance between the cotton candy scent and the acidity creates a surprisingly delightful flavor, and I personally enjoyed this sugar-free version much more than the full-sugar one.

The aftertaste is refreshing, with the tanginess and sweet scent naturally fading away. The taste isn't particularly natural, but somehow it feels easy on the palate, with a light, smooth finish that doesn't leave a lingering aftertaste.

Although the product is named "Iced Vanilla Berry" globally, it was released in Austria under the name "Iced Gummy Bear." The sugar-free version, in particular, closely resembles the flavor of the "Iced Gummy Bear" from Austria.

While the vanilla flavor is almost non-existent, naming the product "vanilla" outside of Austria might have been a misstep.

The main color is an ice blue, reminiscent of glaciers, with plenty of light blue to indicate that it’s a sugar-free version.

In the latter half of 2024, three new sugar-free flavors were added to the Edition series in the U.S., including this Winter Edition.

In the U.S., almost every energy drink outside of long-established major brands has gone sugar-free, and it has become so widespread that calling sugar-free the standard wouldn't be an exaggeration.

Red Bull, however, has been slow to release sugar-free products, but in 2024, they finally introduced this new option. This release is more than five years behind the sugar-free boom in the U.S.

I believe that in the future, Red Bull's Edition series in North America will release both full-sugar and sugar-free versions together.

Since new American energy drink brands have been rapidly expanding into Canada, Oceania, and Europe since around 2023, we may see an increase in sugar-free options worldwide. If that happens, the Edition series might become more robust in markets outside North America as well. (As of 2024, sugar-free Edition products are only available in a select few European countries.)
