This is a review of the sugar-free version of Red Bull AMBER EDITION Strawberry Apricot, released in June 2024.

This watermelon-flavored drink is the sugar-free version of the "Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2022 Strawberry Apricot," which was a limited summer edition, and later became the regular "Red Bull AMBER EDITION Strawberry Apricot." It was also launched around the same time in Canada.

When opened, a sweet and tangy strawberry syrup aroma bursts out. It lacks the real fruitiness and instead has the scent of strawberry candy, with a rich sweetness. Let’s taste it.

Upon tasting, the sweet and tangy strawberry syrup combines with the refreshing apricot flavor, creating a harmonious balance of strawberry and apricot flavors.

Compared to the full-sugar version, this sugar-free version has a more natural finish, leaving behind a pleasant aftertaste and providing a refreshing and satisfying taste. It’s a high-quality sugar-free version that surprised me.

The full-sugar version had a strong "syrupy" taste that I didn’t want to repeat, but the sugar-free version has significantly improved its overall balance.

The intense strawberry syrup aroma doesn’t linger too long, and the lightness of the aftertaste complements the flavor, delivering both satisfaction and freshness. The sugar-free version definitely offers a higher-quality flavor than the full-sugar version.

While the full-sugar version was best enjoyed with ice, the sugar-free version is perfect even at refrigerator temperature. It’s rare for a drink to taste better after going sugar-free.

Personally, I think the full-sugar version should be discontinued in favor of the sugar-free version, as it has achieved such a high level of perfection.

The matte orange texture is complemented by the light blue accents typical of the sugar-free version, such as on the tab, the top of the can, the "SUGARFREE" label, and the "0 SUGAR" icon, making it clear that this is the sugar-free version.

It was released in 250ml and 355ml sizes in North America.

These three flavors, along with the two sizes, make up six sugar-free options that were released in the latter half of 2024.

Most energy drinks currently on the market in the U.S. are now sugar-free. Only some long-established major brands still offer full-sugar versions, with the trend clearly shifting toward zero-sugar since around 2020.

The rapid expansion of Red Bull’s sugar-free editions, particularly in the U.S. market, shows how the brand is catching up with the growing trend in the energy drink industry.

While some European countries, including the UK, have already been offering sugar-free editions of their energy drinks, it’s clear that Red Bull’s expansion of sugar-free versions in the U.S. might signal an increase in their sugar-free offerings worldwide, especially in 2025 and beyond.
