Red Bull Blue Edition 2015 Grape Flavor (Japan)

Posted on September 30, 2015 | Last updated February 13, 2025

Red Bull Blue Edition 2015 Grape Flavor (Japan)
The world’s first original flavor in Japan, Grape Flavor, has been established as a regular item under the Blue Edition of Red Bull.
The can design is almost identical to the previous limited-edition Blue Edition (Blueberry Flavor), but the flavor has been changed from blueberry to grape.
Since I won the #RedBullFriends campaign, I’m excited to be one of the first to review it! (●´ω`●)

Author informationAuthor: Energy Drink-kun

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Red Bull Blue Edition 2015 Grape Flavor (Japan)

Upon opening, an artificial grape scent with no fruit juice, reminiscent of candy like "watapachi" (popping candy), bursts out.
However, when I poured it into a glass and checked again, for some reason, the artificial scent softened, and I could also sense a fresh, not-too-strong aroma, similar to the scent just before eating a peeled grape.

Red Bull Blue Edition 2015 Grape Flavor (Japan)
The color seems almost the same as the previous Blue Edition. While the taste is completely different, since it’s from the same series of Japanese products, I’d like to compare them again on another occasion ((o(´∀`)o))
I’ve also added a comparison review!

I honestly didn’t expect much from the "grape juice" flavor. When I drank it with that mindset, I was surprised by how balanced the taste was—the grape sweetness and acidity spread out well on the light sip, and the aftertaste wasn’t too strong. The distinct acidity of grapes lingers with the fragrance, giving that fresh feeling you get after eating grapes, with a slight aftertaste. ((o(´∀`)o))

I wasn’t expecting much at all, so I was amazed by the well-balanced, delicious flavor.

The subtle bitterness of grape skins might be impressively replicated. It’s a different flavor from the typical carbonated grape flavors in other products. You can especially enjoy it when drinking it close to room temperature (*´艸`*)

Of course, since there’s no fruit juice, there’s an artificial scent and taste at times, but it’s a fascinating flavor that still somehow brings out the freshness of the grape. It’s light yet distinctly grape-flavored, so it seems like it could become addictive.

Energy Ingredients of Blue Edition Grape Flavor

Basically, it contains the standard Red Bull ingredients, with the same composition as the old Blue Edition.
With 80mg of caffeine and 120mg of arginine, it’s a typical amount. For people like the "Drinkers" who have several energy drinks a day or coffee lovers who drink multiple cups, this amount is just right ( ´∀`)bグッ!

Design of Red Bull Blue Edition 2015 Grape Flavor (Japan)

Red Bull Blue Edition Grape Flavor
When lined up, there’s hardly any difference. The grape flavor description is the same as the 2015 style on the Summer Edition, and this is a global trend.
Red Bull Blue Edition Grape Flavor
It looks like this.

The distinctive silver line at the top, unique to Japan, remains, and the grape-flavored Blue Edition is now branded as "Grape Energy Charge."

Although the flavor has changed to grape, it still inherits the Blue Edition series from the previous blueberry flavor. This is similar to the global shift when the Summer Edition switched to the Yellow Edition in the U.S.

However, the Can is Small (´・ω・`)

Unlike the tropical flavor, it’s only available in a 185ml can. I felt the same when the previous Blue Edition was released—the size is just too small. Even the 250ml cans felt too small, so the 185ml can is really disappointing (ヽ´ω`)

Also, the price of 200 yen for the 185ml can raises questions about how well it will reach the general public. Given the small size, it seems like it’s mainly for a quick energy boost or for special moments. It’s a bit pricey for a quick drink.

If this Blue Edition, Summer Edition, and now Grape Edition succeed, we could see a trend of enjoying various flavors on different days, not just the classic ones. Let’s hope this happens ((o(´∀`)o))

By the way, the pull tab was silver.

Red Bull Friends Campaign: Grape Flavor Available Early

I’m so glad I won the Red Bull Friends campaign and got to try it before release.
However, the odds seemed worse this time compared to the Tropical Edition… it seems some of the enthusiasts didn’t win this time.
But it’s great that they do these kinds of campaigns, creating excitement before the official release, which is interesting as it spreads among not just fans but general consumers. I look forward to future campaigns.

And yes, I’ll keep a stock of the Red Bull Blue Edition Grape Flavor!

Comparison: Blue Edition Blueberry vs Grape

Since the flavors are completely different, I wasn’t sure if comparing them made sense, but I’m curious about things like color and the overall taste, so I’ll compare them side by side ( ´∀`)bグッ!
Red Bull Blue Edition Grape Flavor
On the left is the limited summer Blueberry flavor, and on the right is the newly regular Grape flavor. Looking at them, they seem almost the same, with similar colors.

However, there’s a slight difference—although it’s hard to tell in the photo, the Grape flavor looks a bit darker.
Red Bull Blue Edition Grape Flavor
It may be a small difference, but when I held them in my hand, the difference was noticeable.

And the taste? Well, of course, it’s different (;´∀`)

When drinking them side by side, I noticed that the blueberry flavor has a sharp berry acidity as soon as you take a sip, which makes me think, "Ah, this is it, so delicious!" It’s a taste I’m familiar with as a "Drinker."

On the other hand, the Grape flavor has a weaker acidity than blueberry, so the fruity sensation, like the taste near the grape seeds or the bitterness of the skin, really stands out after drinking it. The real "Wow, this is good!" moment happens when you finish drinking and can fully appreciate the fresh taste of the grape.

After comparing, I can say both Blue Editions are great! Delicious! (*ノω・*)テヘ
I think the newly established Blue Edition Grape Flavor is really well-made, and just like the Blueberry version, it’ll definitely become a favorite for those who enjoy it (●´ω`●)

But yeah, the amount is too small (~_~;)
