Red Bull COCONUT EDITION SUGARFREE
Released in March 2019 in the UK, the Red Bull Coconut Edition Sugarfree. The regular version (full sugar) is also available, but for those who prefer no sugar, this sugar-free version is the choice.
This time, I'll be comparing the UK version of the Coconut Edition with the Sugarfree version, reviewing the differences in taste and other aspects.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Taste of Red Bull COCONUT EDITION SUGARFREE
Opening the can releases a sweet coconut scent. Those who are not fond of coconut might hesitate here (^_^;)
The color inside is a sky blue, typical for energy drinks, with a slight cloudiness that adds a touch of beauty.
Upon tasting, a sweet and sour fruity flavor spreads, and it’s hard to tell it’s sugar-free. As you continue drinking, the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners becomes more noticeable, but it still manages not to feel overly sugar-free.
The flavor is called “Coconut & Berry,” but it's more of a sweet-sour fruit mix with a somewhat indescribable taste, with coconut being more of a supporting flavor. As you continue drinking, the coconut scent from the opening fades into the background.
Energy Ingredients of Red Bull COCONUT EDITION SUGARFREE
It contains 80mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, and no fruit juice.
It doesn’t contain sugar, but it’s not calorie-free either, with 7.5 kcal. For Red Bull, the "Total Zero" series is generally the fully zero-calorie product.
Comparing Full Sugar vs. Sugarfree
Now, let's compare the full-sugar version of Coconut Edition with the Sugarfree version, which is released in the UK.
There’s no difference in the coconut scent when opened, and the color of the liquid in the glass is almost identical.
Tasting the full-sugar version immediately reveals that the taste and scent are surprisingly similar. It shows how well the sugar-free version has been done.
However, as you continue drinking, the difference becomes clear, with the full-sugar version offering a rich and smooth sweetness, while the sugar-free version leaves an aftertaste of artificial sweeteners.
The full-sugar version has a continuous fruit sweetness in your mouth, whereas the artificial sweetener taste becomes noticeable in the sugar-free version.
That said, if you drink the sugar-free version on its own without comparing it, it’s not as noticeable.
Design of Red Bull COCONUT EDITION SUGARFREE
The front features the “sugar-free” label with a white can trimmed in silver.
You can easily tell the difference between the full-sugar and sugar-free versions.
This design is common across all the sugar-free versions of the Red Bull Edition series worldwide.
The tab is a light blue tab for the sugar-free version.
While it’s understandable that the light blue tab is for the sugar-free version, it matches the color of the drink, making you think it might be a special tab just for the Coconut Edition.
