RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple

Posted on October 8, 2017 | Last updated February 14, 2025

RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple
The 2016 release of the Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2016 Kiwi Twist has now been made into a regular product, known as RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple.

The flavor name has been changed from "Kiwi Twist" to the more straightforward "Kiwi Apple."

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple

When you open the can, a distinctive kiwi-like fragrance bursts out. It's not the smell of real kiwi fruit, but rather the typical kiwi flavor that you often find in energy drinks.

RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple
The color is a transparent, calm yellow-green, just like the previous Green Edition that was sold.

When you take a sip, a moderately tangy kiwi flavor spreads. It's not the taste of real kiwi, but rather an artificial taste. There is a peculiar aftertaste that lingers, a characteristic flavor often found in foreign apple-flavored energy drinks. This flavor is somewhat similar to what you find in drinks like Bang Sour Heads and Rockstar Super Sours Green Apple. While it's not the same exact weirdness, there's a certain unappealing taste common in apple-flavored drinks that detracts from their umami and refreshment.

For those expecting the fruity taste of kiwi, this is the complete opposite. It doesn't bring out the sweet-tart flavors you'd expect, and there's a lingering artificial taste that makes it, personally, not very enjoyable.

Since the original Summer Edition Kiwi Twist, I've drunk this Green Edition Kiwi Apple multiple times at room temperature, cold, and with ice, but the artificial flavor has never really changed. Among these, adding ice and drinking it quickly seems to be the easiest way to enjoy it.

Red Bull Edition Series: A Series of Disappointments

RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple
By the way, both the 2015 Orange Edition and 2016 Summer Edition Kiwi Twist were flops for two years in a row, lacking any real flavor appeal. Red Bull's Edition series was originally known for creating delicious flavors with no fruit juice, but for some reason, the quality dropped drastically during these two years.

However, in 2017, they made a strong comeback with the Summer Edition Grapefruit Twist, which boasted an incredibly fruity and bitter taste that became one of the best Summer Editions.

It almost felt like the development team completely changed, as the years 2015 and 2016 were memorable failures for me, especially as I would go to America every year to buy the Summer Edition.

Even though the Green Edition has become a regular item, I honestly don’t know what to say about it (;´∀`)

Energy Ingredients of RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple

RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple
Caffeine: 114mg, Taurine: 1250mg, with no other notable ingredients.
Compared to the Summer Edition, there is a slight difference in the ingredients, with the Green Edition reducing the daily Vitamin B6 percentage from 360% to 350%. Aside from that, I couldn't find any significant differences in the ingredient list, and there were no noticeable taste differences.

Comparison Between Summer Edition and Green Edition

As with other seasonal editions that became regular, the flavor and contents of the Green Edition have hardly changed. But I’ll leave a review comparing them.

RED BULL GREEN EDITION Kiwi Apple
The color is exactly the same, and I didn’t notice any difference in the fragrance. Looking at this color, you’d think, "Kiwi & Apple flavor! Can't wait!" but... the taste doesn’t quite match my personal preference (^_^;)

Comparing them, the Summer Edition leaves a stronger peculiar aftertaste, while the Green Edition seems a bit more enjoyable now that it’s become a regular product. However, after alternating between them, I realized the flavor hasn’t changed at all.

It would have been interesting if there had been a flavor difference, but as expected, there’s no difference between the seasonal and regular editions.

The Green Edition is sold in both America and Europe, but the flavor is the same as the original American version, so I’ll skip that here. Personally, I don’t like the Green Edition, but I think many people in Japan might be disappointed by the peculiar aftertaste and lack of fruitiness. If you get a chance to try it, I suggest savoring it slowly.
