In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Fresh Sweet and Sour Lime Flavor

Upon opening, the refreshing lime fruit scent bursts out, building anticipation even before taking a sip.

When I take a sip, the sharp tangy taste provides an intense and punchy sensation, but it quickly transforms into a fresh, sweet and sour lime flavor, letting me fully enjoy the distinct lime taste.

The tanginess doesn’t linger too long, and the lime aroma and sweet-sour flavor stay refreshingly on the palate, making it a perfect flavor for a refreshing experience. It’s so delicious that I end up finishing the 250ml can in no time (๑´ڡ`๑).

While the lime aroma is outstanding, the fruitiness and texture are not too intense. It tastes like a lime candy with a refreshing and juicy feel. It’s enjoyable both chilled and over ice.
Red Bull Green Edition (Limited to Japan)
The lime aroma is strong, so even with plenty of ice, the lime flavor doesn’t get diluted, and I can gulp it down while savoring the lime flavor. It’s a flavor that’s perfect for the summer.

Energy Ingredients of Red Bull Green Edition

Contains 80mg of caffeine, arginine, and no fruit juice.

Design of Red Bull Green Edition

The smooth matte texture of the can gives it a high-quality feel. This texture is something new that hasn't been seen on Japanese Red Bull cans before.

The Japanese Green Edition features a lime flavor, unlike the kiwi-flavored Green Edition released overseas in 2017. The can is in a distinctive deep green color, different from the overseas Green Editions.
Red Bull Green Edition (Limited to Japan)
As stated on the top of the can, it’s a "Limited Edition," so once it sells out, it’s gone. If you love this delicious and flavorful edition, it’s best to secure a few cans early.

The flavor name is written as "Refreshing Splash" in white on the can. It might have been easier to understand if it just said "Lime."

Red Bull Green Edition Overseas vs. Japan

Actually, overseas, a lime-flavored "LIME EDITION" was released separately from the Green Edition in 2015, and the limited edition Green Edition available in Japan is an adaptation of that product. By the way, the overseas LIME EDITION has already been discontinued.

If you line up the Japanese Green Edition and the LIME EDITION from around the world, you can clearly see how different the green hues are.

While lime flavor itself is quite common, it’s clear that the can design sets this product apart from the lime-flavored Red Bull products released previously.

Japan has released limited edition flavors and designs unique to the country in the past, and this Green Edition is another example of a "Japan-exclusive Green Edition."

It’s a fresh, invigorating flavor that makes you want to drink it in the summer, and I think it would also be delicious as a mixer with alcohol. It would be great if this lime edition became a regular summer item. It's a shame it’s limited to a certain number of cans.

Green Edition & Sprite Taste Comparison Review

While browsing Twitter, I saw many comments saying that the Green Edition tastes like Sprite. I can see why people might think of Sprite since it’s a lemon-lime soda.

Personally, I thought the Green Edition was on a different path from Sprite, even though it’s also a lime flavor, so I never associated it with Sprite. So, I decided to do an unusual taste comparison between an energy drink and a regular soda. This might be the first time on Energy Drink Mania!?

Red Bull Green Edition (Limited to Japan)
On the left is Red Bull Green Edition, and on the right is Sprite. The Green Edition has a murky, fruit-filled color, while Sprite is clear and refreshing.

Since I’ve already written a lot about the Green Edition in my review, I decided to try Sprite. It has a smooth mouthfeel, a mild sweetness, and a faint lemon-lime aroma, with a subtle tanginess. There’s no fruitiness or zest, and it’s a clean, refreshing soda. Although both are lime-flavored, it’s clear that the Green Edition is a different experience.

On the other hand, the Green Edition has a rich, tart lime taste and aroma that stands out, and the aftertaste is slightly bitter with some acidity. After drinking Sprite, the Green Edition’s lime flavor feels much more intense and fruity.

Red Bull Green Edition (Limited to Japan)
Interestingly, Sprite, with its less intense lime flavor, contains 1% fruit juice, while Red Bull Green Edition contains no fruit juice, as expected.

When drinking the Green Edition alone, I felt that it was a refreshing lime flavor perfect for summer, but after the comparison, I realized that Sprite is much clearer and more refreshing, making you want to drink it all at once. In comparison, the Green Edition’s lime flavor is much more intense and rich.

The label also says "Sweet and Refreshing," but the lime flavor is much clearer and more refreshing than the sweetness.

Many people have commented that the Green Edition "doesn’t feel like an energy drink," which is unfortunate. The flavor and aroma are well-defined and shouldn’t feel out of place globally. But I guess Red Bull Japan is probably chuckling at that (^-^;)
