Red Bull Organics Ginger Ale

Posted on June 4, 2018 | Last updated February 14, 2025

Red Bull Organics Ginger Ale
The Red Bull Organics series in Japan has released the Ginger Ale flavor. During the energy drink boom in Japan, many ginger-flavored energy drinks with intense spiciness were strangely being released.

Finally, Red Bull has launched a ginger ale flavor, and what’s more, it’s an organic drink. I’m a bit anxious since I’m not a fan of spicy flavors at all...

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Sweet Ginger Ale, Easy to Drink

When opened, a ginger aroma bursts out. Well, that’s expected (^_^;)

However, in Japan, when it comes to energy drinks with ginger, there’s been an overwhelming association with intensely spicy flavors, so I braced myself even more than I would for a regular ginger ale Σ(・∀・;)

When poured into a glass, the color is a clear gold, just like the can itself. The color of the can really matches the content well.

Upon tasting it, to my surprise, this is a sweet ginger ale that's easy to drink, even for someone like me who struggles with spicy flavors! The can says "spicy," and the description on the non-sale special box mentioned a stimulating taste, so I expected a spicy, strong flavor.

The ginger aroma and slight bite are subtle, not strong enough to be a tongue-tingling level. The carbonation is mild, so there's almost no feeling of intense spice. Since I’m particularly sensitive to spiciness, I think this is quite a sweet ginger ale. If you’re expecting a strong, spicy ginger ale with lots of carbonation, this is not it.

Unlike Japan's Spicy Energy Drinks, It's a Proper Ginger Ale (;´∀`)

By the way, the intensely spicy energy drinks that were rushed out during Japan’s energy drink boom... those were hellish...

Back then, the ones available just added spices to typical flavor profiles, which resulted in rather awkward flavors. However, the Red Bull Organics version, though sweet, is definitely a proper ginger ale (which should be obvious, lol). Now, I feel a bit embarrassed for bracing myself before drinking it, lol.

Red Bull Organics Ginger Ale Ingredients

Red Bull Organics Ginger Ale
It appears to be flavored with ginger, bergamot, and lemon. Compared to the Simply Cola, I think it has a much simpler composition with fewer ingredients like sugar and caramel.

Red Bull Organics Ginger Ale
Since it’s Swiss-made, it’s not only certified organic in Japan but also bears the EU organic certification mark.

Undoubtedly a Product with Mixed Opinions

This sweet ginger ale flavor, which is drinkable even for someone like me who can’t handle spiciness, lacks the typical spicy kick. It gives the impression that it’s a bit too mild. Even though it’s an organic product, I think people picking it up might expect a little more spice or refreshment.

It’s a bit lacking in the ginger ale-style bite, and at 200 yen, it feels a bit pricey. For someone who’s used to getting ginger ale for just over 100 yen, they might feel the same way.

It costs 200 yen for a 250ml can, so I think it’s tough to justify unless it offers a more robust flavor or experience. I feel the same about the Simply Cola as well. Considering that a 500ml bottle of Coca-Cola Original is available for less than 100 yen...

Red Bull Organics Ginger Ale
Here’s the tab. The different Red Bull Organics flavors feature tabs that match the color of the cans, as seen with the existing Red Bull Edition series. If there’s a future re-release, I’d love to see a Yellow Edition with a yellow tab (●´ω`●).

That little bit of joy when you pick up a can with a matching colored tab isn’t just something for the fanatics, I think everyone might feel it ((o(´∀`)o))
