Red Bull ORGANICS VIVA MATE
Released in May 2020, Red Bull ORGANICS VIVA MATE is the fifth and final flavor of the first generation of Red Bull ORGANICS.
As you can tell by the release date, it was launched after the world went into lockdown due to COVID-19, so I wasn’t able to purchase the first generation locally. This time, I will review the second generation of Red Bull ORGANICS VIVA MATE, which has undergone a full design overhaul.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Red Bull ORGANICS VIVA MATE
Upon opening, a distinct tea leaf aroma escapes. Red Bull's first-ever tea—what will it taste like!? Let’s try it out.
When I take a sip, the carbonation creates bubbles, and the tea leaf’s astringent flavor fades away. The first impression is a refreshing, sweet and sour sparkling mate tea.
It’s not just regular mate tea with carbonation added; there’s also a natural sweetness and tanginess. This isn't about recreating a fruity flavor, but rather an accent, and the aftertaste leaves no residue—just a smooth, refreshing sensation that goes down easily.
Rather than being a typical carbonated organic mate tea, the subtle sweetness and acidity add to the crispness of the mate tea, giving it a more substantial mouthfeel and a sophisticated, health-conscious feel. According to Red Bull, it’s a smoky mate tea with added lemon.
That said, there's nothing particularly remarkable about the flavor or refreshment, so I’m not sure if I’d want to drink VIVA MATE again. It’s a bit surprising that this survived after the Red Bull ORGANICS rebranding. It’s not bad, but lacks impact and doesn’t really stand out, so I’m curious about how well it’s selling.
Energy Ingredients of Red Bull ORGANICS VIVA MATE
Red Bull ORGANICS products do not contain any energy ingredients, and are made with ingredients certified by the EU’s organic certification.
The ingredients include concentrated lemon juice, natural mate tea extract, caramel sugar syrup, lemon, caffeine from coffee beans, locust beans, and vanilla.
Design of Red Bull ORGANICS VIVA MATE
The smooth matte texture and the calm green and yellow combination, inspired by mate tea, give it a luxurious impression.
With this redesign, the Red Bull ORGANICS series shifted to a more premium design direction. The redesign also saw the release of a glass bottle version, making it feel more like an organic product for adults.
The Red Bull ORGANICS series is currently available in some European countries. If you travel to Germany, Austria, or Italy, be sure to look for it!
