Red Bull's PEAR EDITION SUGARFREE, released in 2019, is a new addition to their sugar-free series. This is an American original, and it’s a rare one as it hasn’t been launched in other countries.

When poured into a glass, it had a surprising lime green color instead of what I had imagined. A pear flavor with this shade of green is a bit off, don't you think? (^_^;)

The sweet aroma of pear wafts through the nose, and as you take a sip, you get a sweet-tart pear flavor with a refreshing green apple-like tang. There's a slight bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. Whether this bitterness comes from the artificial sweeteners or was intentionally added to the pear edition is a bit unclear.

Red Bull has never been one to fully hide the taste of artificial sweeteners in their sugar-free products, and this pear edition is no exception. Unfortunately, the zero-calorie sensation is still noticeable. It’s not that it’s bad, but the overall execution leaves something to be desired, making it less likely to want a second round.

If only the sweet pear scent were stronger, it could have added more fruitiness and made it taste better. It's a bit of a missed opportunity.

Contains 114mg of caffeine and 1420mg of taurine. Although sugar-free, it still has 15kcal. If it were completely zero-calorie, it would be part of Red Bull's Total Zero series, not Sugarfree.

Despite being a pear flavor, the main color is deep green, and it follows the diagonal, silver-cut design typical of Red Bull's sugar-free series worldwide.

However, was such a dark green really necessary? (^_^;) A lighter green would have been better to reflect the pear flavor.

Red Bull already has a green edition in yellow-green as a regular product. Since this pear flavor is close in color, consumers might have trouble distinguishing it from existing products.

Interestingly, the 2020 Summer Edition Watermelon was released in the same red can as the existing Red Edition. Since 2017, Red Bull’s edition series has been a bit hit or miss. It would probably be better to create unique designs for each product instead of relying just on color differentiation.

Unfortunately, the sugar-free series released in the US has been discontinued. Personally, I find the pear edition rather underwhelming, and I suspect Americans might feel the same. Let’s see how long this one will last!
