The Purple Edition of Red Bull, released on June 8, 2021, is a limited edition product.
Previously, the Acai-flavored Summer Edition was released in Brazil, followed by the Acai Edition in various countries. It was later released as the Purple Edition. The version released in Japan features a unique grape flavor.

Flavor of Sweet and Fruity Grape
True to its name, the Purple Edition is a beautiful purple color. A sweet grape scent wafts through the air.
Upon tasting, you can feel the sweet and tart fruitiness of the grape. There's no chemical aftertaste, and at 250ml, it's easy to finish in one go because of its deliciousness.
The balance of the grape's sweetness and tartness is just right, allowing you to enjoy the refreshing taste of the fruit flesh. It's a rich grape flavor typical of Red Bull.
Even with ice, the grape's umami doesn’t weaken and can still be enjoyed, with the fruitiness giving a fresher impression, making it highly recommended!
The fact that you can enjoy this flavor without any fruit juice is one of the highlights of the Red Bull Edition series. Unlike previous editions that were often left unsold, this one disappeared from store shelves quickly, and before you knew it, it was gone.
Comparison of Japan's Unique Purple Edition and Blue Edition Flavors
The Blue Edition, released in Japan in October 2015, had a grape flavor. Despite being the Blue Edition, it was a unique flavor exclusive to Japan. Since the new Purple Edition is also a grape flavor, I decided to compare the old and new Red Bull grape flavors.
On the left is the Purple Edition, and on the right is the Blue Edition.
After six years, the Blue Edition’s color has completely faded and turned a smoky gray. It’s cool in its own way, but when I poured it into a glass, I was shocked. It's not uncommon for the color to fade over a few years, like in Rhinos Relaxation.
So, I tried the comparison. However, as I mentioned, there was no real need to compare, as the taste of the Blue Edition has deteriorated, and the characteristic sweetness of the grape was lost Σ(´∀`;)
Although the grape scent and tartness remain, the grape flavor no longer holds up. Upon tasting the new Purple Edition, I felt that the old Blue Edition was very similar to it, but the deterioration over six years was much more advanced than I had imagined, making it impossible to do a proper taste comparison.
This can’t be helped. I just wanted to share with you how the grape flavor from a few years ago faded and turned color like this.
Energy Ingredients of Red Bull Purple Edition (Japan)
It contains 80mg of caffeine and 300mg of arginine. All Edition series products have the same energy ingredients and proportions as the original. Recently, caffeine content has been increasing in Japan, but in terms of total daily caffeine intake, this amount seems just right.
And every time, I'm impressed by how delicious this is without any fruit juice. I’ve always wondered what Red Bull would be like if they made a fruit juice-based product.
Design of Red Bull Purple Edition (Japan)
The can is entirely purple, with a silver line at the top, creating a combination of purple and silver that gives it a calm, luxurious feel.
The uniquely Japanese "Mystic Magic" on the can doesn’t make it obvious what the flavor is, but with a purple Red Bull, you can probably imagine the flavor just by the can's color.

The worldwide Purple Edition includes the "Acai" flavor name, but Japan sticks to its unique approach of not including a flavor name. (^_^;)
Red Bull Purple Edition Returns as Vending Machine Exclusive on March 29, 2022

The label that once said "Limited Edition" is gone, and it seems to have become a regular product. As a fan, it’s great to see this!
The Purple Edition quickly disappeared from stores, so I had to buy boxes of it on Amazon, and I drank them all up quickly... I was too cautious, so when it became a regular item, the timing was perfect!
As always, the umami of the grape flesh is so refreshing. The Edition series of Red Bull is different from the usual grape flavors, so I hope you’ll take the opportunity of this re-release to taste it again.

March 7, 2023, "Grape Flavor" Returns to Store Shelves and Becomes a Regular Item
The Purple Edition, which disappeared from vending machines in the winter of 2022, made its return as a regular product on March 7, 2023. I'm personally thrilled about the Purple Edition becoming a regular item, especially considering it has one of the best flavors among Japan's Edition series!

Until now, Japan had a mysterious name where the flavor should have been listed, making it hard to imagine the taste, but with this return, the flavor is clearly labeled as "Grape Flavor."
Globally, this can be seen as a step toward standardization. In previous reviews of Japan’s Editions, I mentioned that it’s better to clearly show the flavor name on the front, and the Purple Edition has finally made this a reality. I hope future Edition series releases also have flavor names clearly displayed.
Red Bull Should Continue to Release More Edition Series
This time, Red Bull captured the essence of grape with no juice content, maintaining the rich and realistic taste, but I believe many people might think it’s "a flavor that doesn’t taste like an energy drink." This is probably a bit unique to Japan, as the grape flavor is too common as a juice flavor, so it's understandable.
Since the first time the Edition series launched with three colors simultaneously in the U.S., I’ve tried every Edition, and they always deliver high-quality flavors, making each one a fun experience.
I hope Red Bull continues to release various limited-edition flavors in Japan, even if just a few times a year. It would be great if the unique deliciousness of the Red Bull Edition series becomes established and appreciated here.

果汁をちょっぴり使っただけのぶどうの炭酸飲料を無果汁で余裕で飛び越していく。「レッドブルにはこうあって欲しい」の凝縮された1本です。
期間限定版が無くなったときはショックでしたが、自販機限定で復活したときの喜びたるや。
最後に不満点をひとつあげるとしたら、入手難易度の高さくらいです。一般販売して欲しいのですが、望みは薄そうです...。
廃盤になるそのときを想像すると、手足の震えが止まりません。
