Upon sipping, the refreshing sweetness of mangosteen, peach, and lychee, with a slight tanginess, creates a fruity and full-bodied taste. The aroma and changes in sweetness and acidity replicate the flavor of mangosteen flesh quite well. There’s no chemical taste commonly associated with energy drinks, making it enjoyable for everyone. This gentle flavor seems to target women.

Mangosteen, often referred to as the "queen of fruits," isn’t widely consumed in Japan. If you haven’t tried the Ruby Edition yet, you might find it reminiscent of peach or lychee flavors, which are more familiar.

Japan’s Red Bull has already released a peach-flavored White Edition, a Japan-exclusive flavor, so this edition gives a similar vibe. The two flavors do overlap a bit.

When served with ice, it becomes even more refreshing, and the tropical mangosteen flavor can be enjoyed with an extra crispness. Personally, I recommend drinking it ice-cold in large sips.

This edition contains 80mg of caffeine and 300mg of arginine, a standard energy composition for a 250ml can. With these levels, you don’t have to worry about drinking too much, so you can enjoy it without stress.

The design of the can perfectly mirrors the ruby-colored outer skin of the mangosteen and its white flesh inside. I really enjoy these kinds of visual representations.

Differences from the Overseas Ruby Edition

In 2017, an overseas version of the Ruby Edition was released as a summer limited edition and later became a permanent flavor, with a pink grapefruit flavor.

So, the Japan Ruby Edition, with its mangosteen flavor, is an exclusive release for Japan.

The overseas pink grapefruit version was incredibly delicious, and I thought we might get to enjoy it in Japan too. If it had arrived in Japan during summer, it would’ve been amazing…

Vivid Flash

On the Japanese version, the flavor name appears as "Vivid Flash" in white, standing out prominently.

At first glance, the can doesn’t reveal the flavor, so anyone familiar with the overseas Summer Edition or Ruby Edition would be surprised to find out it’s actually a mangosteen flavor.

The back of the can clearly states "Mangosteen Flavor."

If you look at the past Japanese editions, you’ll notice that Japan often features unique flavors, different from those in other countries. While this is great for trying something new, it also means that we don’t get to experience some of the delicious flavors available overseas. It's a bit frustrating at times. (^_^;)

No More "Limited Edition" Label for the Ruby Edition!?

From the press release, it appears that the Ruby Edition is once again a limited-time release, but unlike previous editions, the can doesn’t feature the "limited edition" label anymore.

Despite being limited edition, the Red Edition and Orange Edition still have stock left on store shelves. When products linger too long, the “limited edition” feel fades away.

The Ruby Edition has a flavor close to the White Edition, and the can color resembles the Red Edition, which was released in 2021. While I love the vibrant ruby color, it lacks the sense of novelty that would make it stand out in stores. Will the Japan Ruby Edition become popular?

マンゴスチンフレーバーだとは思ってもみなかった！味はマンゴスチンを食べたことがなくてわからないけど、ピーチ系の味ですね。普通に美味しいんだけど、これか？って疑問符がつく。最近のレッドブルは微妙なフレーバーが多い。売れ残りのご指摘もそれを物語っていると思います。ルビーエディションは来年まで残ってたりするんじゃ？？？？
