Released on March 4, 2025, the Spring Edition for Japan features a unique strawberry flavor! This is a Japan-exclusive flavor that is not available overseas.

In the past, Red Bull released a similar flavor, the Red Edition with a strawberry & apricot flavor, so I tried comparing the two.

Upon opening the can, a sweet and tangy strawberry candy-like aroma bursts out. It doesn’t seem to replicate the natural taste of real strawberries very closely. Now, let's take a sip.

As I take a sip, a refreshing sweetness spreads across my mouth. There’s no artificial aftertaste; instead, it has a mild, soft sweetness with a balanced tartness, reminiscent of strawberry candy.

The aftertaste is light and easy to drink, making it a flavor that will appeal to a wide range of people. There are no standout flaws, and it doesn’t taste cheap, making it a well-balanced strawberry flavor.

That being said, it doesn’t have the juicy, rich, and fresh strawberry taste either. It’s not a flavor that divides opinions into “delicious” or “not delicious”—it hits the perfect average mark. Personally, I feel it could have been a bit more unique.

When served with plenty of ice, the candy-like taste fades, leaving a refreshing strawberry flavor.

Comparison Review: 2025 Strawberry Flavor vs. 2022 Strawberry Apricot

The Red Edition Strawberry Apricot flavor, released in Japan in 2022, had a strong impression of a strawberry candy flavor. So, I'll compare it with this new strawberry flavor.

That being said, the Red Edition 2022 has expired by about a year and a half, which means it has likely deteriorated to some extent. Please consider this as a comparison of the flavor characteristics as of 2025.

The color of the 2025 Spring Edition is slightly cloudy, whereas the 2022 Red Edition has a deep red yet clear hue. Now, let's take a sip.

The Red Edition immediately bursts with a sweet and tangy apricot flavor upon the first sip, making it clear that it’s completely different from the standalone strawberry flavor. When I drank it back in 2022, I recalled the strawberry candy-like taste standing out more than the apricot. However, since I recently had multiple cans of the pure strawberry-flavored Spring Edition 2025, the mixed flavor of the Red Edition 2022 now feels more distinct. It has a much richer taste.

On the other hand, the Spring Edition 2025 has a light and smooth strawberry candy flavor with no strong aftertaste, making it noticeably easier to drink.

Comparing the two, the Spring Edition 2025 Strawberry flavor lacks a rich and juicy depth. However, it seems to be designed for mass appeal with an easy-to-drink profile.

A simple yet stylish combination of matte red with a smooth texture and white accents.

Starting with this Spring Edition, Japan-exclusive new products no longer feature the distinctive "NEW" mark. Compared to the 2024 Spring Edition, which had this mark, here’s how it looks now:

The removal of the prominent "NEW" mark makes the design look simpler and more refined.

Additionally, when compared to the 2022 Red Edition used in this review, there’s no "NEW FLAVOR" label on the upper part of the can, making the design look even more minimalistic.

Why did they simplify the design so much?

Could it be that Red Bull is planning to introduce the Zero Sugar Edition series in Japan, similar to how they expanded it in North America and Europe in 2024? That’s the kind of speculation an energy drink enthusiast can't resist.

The light blue line on the top of the can, a signature feature of zero-sugar products, clearly differentiates it from the full-sugar version.

If the simple design of this release, like the product lineup overseas, is intended to clearly distinguish between full-sugar and zero-sugar versions, perhaps we can expect the arrival of a sugar-free Red Bull Edition series in Japan in the future!?
