Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze

Posted on May 5, 2019 | Last updated February 9, 2025

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
Released in late April 2019, the Red Bull Summer Edition Beach Breeze from the U.S. This is one of the most unique flavors in the Red Bull Seasonal Edition series—not necessarily bad, but a drink that will likely divide opinions dramatically.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze

Opening the can releases a somewhat coconut-like scent, along with a sweet, hard-to-describe fragrance that I can't quite place. In fact, the 2018 Summer Edition had a coconut flavor. It's now sold regularly as the Coconut Edition, so it doesn't feel as special, and there's a strong impression of "Another coconut flavor this year?!"

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
The drink that came out of the flashy can is white. White from a blue can... Last year’s coconut flavor was from a white can with a blue interior...

Now, let’s taste it.

Upon drinking, a mild coconut sweetness spreads across your palate, followed by the tropical mix of grapefruit, lime, and refreshing passion fruit—flavors that are both fruity and invigorating.

Compared to the Coconut Edition (2018 Summer Edition), the coconut flavor is much more subdued, so even those who don’t like coconut might find the Beach Breeze blend more palatable.

However, after drinking, there’s a lingering aroma of artificial air fresheners, fabric softeners, sunscreen, or even perfume, which makes your face scrunch up a bit (-_-;)

You hope it’s some sort of mistake, but as you drink it again, the refreshing fruit flavor is noticeable, yet the fragrance continues to take over, evoking the scent of potpourri...!

Drinking this is like chewing on a potpourri—exactly how you'd imagine the Summer Edition Beach Breeze would taste if eaten directly (;´∀`)

With coconut flavor and a slight citrus acidity, it’s ultimately enveloped by the sweet aroma of air freshener. It’s unclear what they were aiming for. Especially if you drink it at room temperature, the air freshener flavor becomes overwhelming. However, if you chill it well and add plenty of ice, you can enjoy the refreshing fruitiness. Still, some may feel as though they are drinking air freshener, fabric softener, or sunscreen throughout.

It’s a change of pace from their usual drinkable offerings.

Energy Ingredients of Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
Caffeine: 114mg, Taurine: 1420mg. As always, it contains no fruit juice, and there’s no special ingredient blend.

In the past, the Summer Editions often offered fruity flavors. The ingredient list might seem simple, but there were deep, enjoyable flavors. This year, however, it’s a bizarre, novelty-like flavor (Σ(´∀`;)).

Conclusion on Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
The blue of the can evokes the image of a beautiful tropical island sky and sea, fitting the Summer Edition theme. The color looks great (*´艸`*) It’s a very nice color.

The tab is a silver tab.
Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
As has been the case in previous years, the seasonal editions usually become a standard release with a colored tab. So, until then, it will likely stay with the silver tab.

It would be nice to see a beautiful blue tab like the can, but with such a questionable flavor, it’s uncertain whether it will become a regular release... The Americans who tried it seemed to share the same ambivalence as well (w).

The can color is great and stands out well in stores, but as a drink, it's hard to predict its future (^_^;).

Comparing Summer Edition Beach Breeze in Different Countries

While consuming a large stock, I decided to compare the Beach Breeze from three countries.
Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
From left to right: Canada, Austria, and Germany.

The flavor names differ slightly by country. Having previously compared Yellow Summer (7 countries) and Original (10+ countries) Editions, energy drink enthusiasts like me can’t resist doing side-by-side comparisons to see if there’s any difference in taste.

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
In Canada, it’s called Beach Blend, in Austria, it’s Südseefrüchte, and in Germany, it’s the same Beach Breeze as in the U.S.

When translated, Austria’s Südseefrüchte means “Southern Sea Fruits”—tropical fruits. It certainly would be a perfect tropical fruit flavor if it weren’t for that artificial scent.

Comparing them in glasses, the color is the same across all three. The scent doesn’t seem to vary either.

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
Let’s compare the flavors now.

Initially, you might notice some differences in intensity, but after repeated tastings, they all end up tasting the same. With a 750ml bottle, you can enjoy the comparisons leisurely (*´艸`*).

While drinking these three, I revisited my earlier “potpourri flavor” review and thought, “Yeah, that’s definitely right.” The question of whether you like it or find it unnatural is where opinions will diverge.

The citrusy, fruity, and gently sweet-and-tangy tropical fruit flavor is fine. But personally, I just can’t get past the scent—it makes it hard to enjoy (ヽ´ω`).

Red Bull SUMMER EDITION 2019 Beach Breeze
Germany is the only one with its own unique blue tab, while Canada and Austria, like the U.S., feature a silver tab.

The flavor names differ slightly, but the three are essentially the same. Whether it’s worth doing individual reviews for each or combining them into one comparison post, I opted for the latter to avoid excessive reviews.

If there’s a clear distinction in the edition, like the Summer Edition and Yellow Edition, I separate them into different posts with reviews and explanations.
