Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis

Posted on March 5, 2022 | Last updated February 3, 2025

Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis
This is the 2019 winter limited edition of Red Bull released in Austria, featuring the Gletschereis (Glacier Ice) flavor.

In the following year, 2020, the same flavor was launched in countries outside of Austria. However, the initial release of the Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis was the world's first Red Bull with a special can treatment. Let's dive into the review of this unique edition.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis

When opened, it reveals a clear and beautiful light blue color. This color makes you curious about what flavor it could be. Let's take a sip.
Flavor of Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis
Upon tasting, it has a sweet and sour raspberry flavor. There is no fruity taste, just a candy-like artificial berry flavor.

The taste and aroma are somewhat light, with no richness of raspberry fruit, and it tastes like an ordinary berry-flavored candy. It’s surprising how this flavor could easily be found in inexpensive carbonated drinks, not just Red Bull.

Perhaps the light blue can, which is meant to represent glaciers, was designed to evoke a blue raspberry flavor. However, it doesn’t have the typical artificial blue raspberry taste, so I’m not sure what kind of flavor they were aiming for.

This year’s Winter Edition has a much cheaper impression compared to the usual high-quality flavors that were released first in Austria.

The light blue color and raspberry flavor don’t seem to match well together. I expected a more intricate flavor inspired by glaciers, but this turned out to be just a regular flavor... I was left feeling a bit disappointed.

The light blue and blue combination gives off a cold, icy feel. I didn’t expect an ordinary berry-flavored drink to come from a can that looks like this. I feel like the taste doesn’t match the color and design, and that’s disappointing.

Design of Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis
At the top of the can, there’s a snowflake design. This feature is unique to the initial Austrian release and was not included in the worldwide versions that launched the following year.

Additionally, when chilled, the silver-blue of the Red Bull logo changes to blue, which is a major feature of the 2019 Winter Edition available in Austria.
Design of Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2019 Gletschereis
As it warms up, it turns to silver, which is a special effect unique to the 2019 Winter Edition in Austria. It was a really nice touch for a winter-themed edition.

The Winter Editions released the following year in other countries, like the US, only had a printed blue logo and didn’t have the special temperature-changing design that was introduced in the 2019 Austrian release.
