When I take a sip, a fresh and fruity orange flavor bursts with soft sweetness and a hint of tartness, reminiscent of orange pulp.

There’s a slight peel sensation, and the aftertaste is refreshing, with the sweet and sour flavor not lingering too long, allowing the juicy orange goodness to shine. Even on a cold winter day, this would be a flavor I’d want to enjoy chilled.

It’s a blend of the deliciousness of real orange with the enhanced flavors from sugar and artificial flavoring, creating a flavor that stands apart from cheap orange sodas.

The freshness of the fruitiness and the luxurious orange flavor make this perfect for when you crave a refined orange taste. I think it would be great if this were available year-round, not just as a limited winter release.

Comparing the New and Old Orange Flavors

I compared the Red Bull Winter Edition 2024 (Citrus Orange) with the Red Bull Orange Edition Sunrise Spark (Iyokan flavor), which was released in February 2022. Since the previous version has been stored for about two years beyond its best-by date, there may be some degradation in both aroma and taste, so this comparison is based on the current flavor profile.

The colors are almost the same. It may be due to the degradation, or perhaps the vitamin B2 in the Winter Edition 2024, but this version looks slightly darker. The scent is also nearly identical. I can’t tell much difference; it’s the same sweet, bursting scent of orange pulp. Let’s compare the taste.

2022 Iyokan Flavor

The Iyokan flavor is also sweet and sour, with the citrusy orange burst providing a pleasant experience. The base orange flavor in this version is quite similar to the Winter Edition 2024, with both having a citrusy and refreshing orange profile. While the flavor has evolved over the two years, the impression of citrus fruit is still strong.

2024 Citrus Orange Flavor

The 2024 Citrus Orange version enhances the fresh sweetness of orange pulp, with a more balanced acidity, and the umami of the fruit and lingering sweet aftertaste stand out more compared to the previous version.

Comparison Result

At first taste, it’s hard to distinguish them, and one might mistake the 2024 version for a re-release of the 2022 flavor. However, the 2024 version emphasizes the sweetness of the orange pulp, while the previous one focused more on the tangy and refreshing notes of citrus.

Both are delicious, no doubt, but the 2024 Citrus Orange has a longer-lasting orange aftertaste, offering a higher level of satisfaction.

Design of Red Bull Winter Edition 2024 Citrus Orange

The first impression is a refreshing combination of a bright orange and white, giving a calm and subdued feel.

Red Bull’s design typically expresses the flavor image through the color and product name alone, which makes it hard to differentiate from past designs.

When compared with the 2022 release of the same orange flavor, there’s a noticeable difference in color depth.

Additionally, when compared with the Red Bull Summer Edition 2023 Mango Pineapple, the color is almost identical.

The color is so similar that it’s hard to tell them apart. This highlights a limitation in Red Bull’s design, which struggles to capture the flavor image or product concept in the design, a challenge that has been apparent for the last 6-7 years.

Since Japan continually releases unique flavors, it would be interesting to see some gradual changes to Red Bull’s overall design, starting with the Japanese editions.
