Regain Energy Drink 2000
This is a review of the second version of Regain Energy Drink, the enhanced version with stronger energy ingredients—Regain Energy Drink 2000.
With its tagline "Super Unstoppable Drive," it seems to have evolved? The addition of the number on the label gives it even more of a nutritional drink vibe.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Regain Energy Drink 2000
The color is on the darker side, and there is a slight ginger scent.
Perhaps this is because it contains more black ginger extract compared to the previous Regain Energy Drink.
The taste features an energy drink flavor with a tangy kick, accompanied by the spicy flavor of black ginger. There's a chemical aftertaste and scent, but the lingering sensation in the mouth is minimal.
The sweetness is not too strong, making it a refreshing, classic flavor, but the black ginger flavor is overpowering. As a regular energy drink consumer, the spice became too much for me. The stimulation was a bit off-putting.
The original Regain Energy Drink was still drinkable, but I personally found the new 2000 version a bit harsh. It might be because I'm sensitive to spiciness, but I felt it was a bit too intense.
I wonder why they tend to add spices to energy drinks in Japan. It’s curious.
Energy Ingredients of Regain Energy Drink 2000
It contains 80mg of caffeine and an unusually high 2000mg of arginine, making it the top in terms of arginine content in energy drinks as of November 2014.
Other ingredients are similar to those of a typical energy drink, with no herbal medicines included.
The large "2000" on the can seems to emphasize the arginine content. This feels similar to the way taurine content is listed on the labels of nutritional drinks. The overall image is more of a nutritional drink than a cool energy drink, which might feel a bit off for those expecting a more sleek energy drink design.
Is Regain Energy Drink 2000 a Drink for Work?
As seen in the TV commercial, it seems to position itself as a work-oriented energy drink, transitioning from the old Regain nutritional drink to the Regain energy drink to align with changing times. The image of a serious office worker is associated with nutritional drinks, but with an energy drink, the branding could be more casual, making it easier to buy and drink in everyday situations.
However, the package design still feels more like a carbonated version of a nutritional drink, which could make it a bit hard to fully embrace as an energy drink. Regain Energy Drink 2000, being a more concentrated formula, is priced higher at 232 yen excluding tax for 190ml. This price makes it clear that it’s not intended as an everyday drink for young people.
Perhaps a 250 yen version with a 3000 formula might come out next. It’s common to see three variants of popular nutritional drinks with incremental taurine content at around 100 yen each, after all. The top-tier version might even have additional herbs, making it feel more premium.
