Posted on January 9, 2021 | Last updated February 23, 2025

rhino’s energy sugarfree drink
This is the 2011 American version of Rhino’s Energy Sugarfree from Germany. Interestingly, it doesn’t have an "Energy Drink" label, and the product name is simply "Rhino’s Sugarfree Drink."

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Classic Sugar-Free Flavor with a Strong Sour Kick

As soon as you take a sip, the strong sourness stands out, accompanied by the full-on taste of artificial sweeteners. The flavor is similar to Red Bull Sugarfree but with an even sharper sourness, making it a bit hard to drink...

Many people find sugar-free energy drinks easier to drink than their full-sugar counterparts, but this one’s strong sourness makes it less refreshing. I can't help but wonder if they could have toned it down a bit... (^_^;)

Energy Ingredients of rhino’s energy sugarfree drink

Contains 80mg of caffeine and 1,000mg of taurine. The Rhino’s Energy Sugarfree reviewed here is an American version, with ingredient labeling following U.S. regulations.

Design of rhino’s energy sugarfree drink

The can features a combination of emerald green and mirror-finish silver. The Sugarfree version was sold in the U.S., while the original German market had a separate product called Rhino’s Zero.

A side label on the can states that it contains "Austrian spring water." Perhaps they wanted to emphasize a European energy drink image.

It’s also quite curious that the product name omits "Energy Drink" and is simply labeled as "Sugarfree Drink."
