Natural Guava Flavor, but Where's the Pineapple??

When poured into a glass, it has a bright, natural color. The German version of the Guava Pineapple seems to be inspired by the color of white-fleshed guava. What kind of flavor will this morning energy drink have? Let's try it out right away.

Upon taking a sip, I tasted a sweet and tangy, natural-style guava juice. The product name is "Guava Pineapple," but honestly, I barely taste any pineapple.

It has a natural-type guava juice flavor with a slight tanginess, reminiscent of the raw fruit's slightly bitter taste. There's no excessive sweetness or junky flavor, and definitely no chemical taste typical of energy drinks. This could easily be accepted as part of a morning energy drink series, with its guava flavor being quite fitting.

That said, it doesn't have the fresh, squeezed fruit flavor I was expecting. It tastes more like a beverage with 5% fruit juice, as indicated. It might be described as a neutral flavor—nothing particularly remarkable.

Comparing Guava Pineapple with Island Fruits

The Australian version of the Rockstar First Start series, Island Fruits, was almost entirely guava-flavored, so I decided to compare it with the German Guava Pineapple.

On the left is Germany, and on the right is Australia. Although the can designs are the same, the color of the contents is quite different. The Australian version doesn't include "guava" in its flavor name, but the color is that of pink guava flesh.

Both drinks are based on guava juice, but the German Guava Pineapple had a more noticeable fruitiness.

As I mentioned earlier, the German Guava Pineapple doesn't completely replicate the real fruit experience, but the Australian Island Fruits had almost no fruitiness at all. It had a more artificial, candy-like sweet-and-tart flavor.

Although both are guava-flavored and their can designs are strikingly similar, the direction of the flavors was completely different. It's a great example of how a flavor can be adjusted to fit the tastes of each country.

Let's compare the can designs as well.

The color and design are almost identical. The series name differs between Germany/UK's "FIRST START" and Australia's "START FRESH," but the theme is the same: "Energy charge for the morning."

Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR FIRST START GUAVA PINEAPPLE

Contains 150mg of caffeine, 50mg of guarana, and 50mg of ginseng. The 5% fruit juice is apple juice. This is the same as the Australian Island Fruits flavor I compared earlier.

Both the German and UK versions of the First Start series do not contain taurine.

Design of ROCKSTAR FIRST START GUAVA PINEAPPLE

A matte white can with a big yellow star and purple accents. With these colors, it's hard to imagine guava or pineapple, but Rockstar has released guava-flavored drinks in purple, so this might be following that trend.
