Released in 2016, Rockstar Ginger Brew was initially an AMPM exclusive in the U.S.

A few months after its release, it became available in local markets, making it accessible nationwide.

Upon opening, a ginger aroma gently wafts out. Since I’m not a fan of strong spiciness and have had bad experiences with Japanese ginger-flavored energy drinks, the name "Ginger Brew" and this ginger scent honestly make me feel uneasy even before tasting it (^_^;)

When poured into a glass, it has a bright, beautiful champagne color. Seeing this color emerge from the sparkling gold can is pretty exciting!

Let’s give it a try.

Upon the first sip, it turns out to be a sweet, ginger ale-type drink with almost no ginger heat or pungency—perfect for someone like me, who can’t handle spiciness! ε-(´∀｀*)ﾎｯ

At room temperature, there’s a faint ginger kick, but when chilled, the heat disappears almost entirely, leaving you with a refreshing, sweet ginger ale. Even those sensitive to spice can enjoy this one.

On the flip side, those seeking a sharp, spicy ginger kick may be disappointed, or even frustrated, by how sweet this is. Most overseas ginger-flavored energy drinks lean toward sweetness, which works well for me. However, if you prefer spicy, punchy flavors like Japan's RAIZIN, you probably won’t find satisfaction in any of these sweeter overseas options.

It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 200mg of guarana, 100mg of glucuronolactone, 50mg of carnitine, and 50mg of inositol. The energy ingredients are detailed quite thoroughly for Ginger Brew.

However, there’s no mention of ginger extract or other spices. Yet, it definitely has a ginger-like kick—you can feel it in your throat and stomach after finishing the can. If ginger isn’t in it, what’s causing that sensation? lol

The design features a cool pattern with the "ROCKSTAR" logo in two shades of gold. With a more refined font, it could have an even more premium look. The can surface is smooth, but it gives off a glossy appearance that’s quite appealing in its own way.

The black top with a gold tab is a signature Rockstar detail, adding a polished finish. A silver top with a silver tab would’ve been such a letdown (^_^;)

Although Rockstar Ginger Brew started as a store-exclusive and then expanded to small retailers nationwide, it felt like the distribution widened just to clear stock. It seems it wasn’t very popular, as it was discontinued shortly after. Even in Australia, where the ginger flavor launched earlier, it didn’t last long. It seems ginger flavors rarely become long-term bestsellers.
