This is a review of the ROCKSTAR JUICED Pomegranate, released in 2007, from the Rockstar fruit juice-infused series, which contains 10% fruit juice.

Flavor of ROCKSTAR JUICED Pomegranate

When opened, a strong sweet and sour cherry-like punch aroma bursts out. At this point, there’s no particularly thick, fruit juice-like scent.

When poured into a glass, the color is rich and opaque, almost like a red mist, making it impossible to see through. However, it's not a powdery, juice-like cloudiness.

Since it's a pomegranate-only flavor, it has a rich sweet and sour taste of pomegranate. The sourness is stronger than the sweetness, so the flavor leans more towards a punch flavor than a fruit juice flavor. Both the sweetness and the sourness don't carry a strong fruitiness, which might be why it feels more punch-like.

Indeed, this makes the juice series feel somewhat awkward in its positioning.

Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR JUICED Pomegranate

It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 300mg of ginkgo leaf extract, 50mg of guarana, 50mg of carnitine, 50mg of ginseng, and 40mg of milk thistle.
Milk thistle, which isn't often found in energy drinks these days, is included. This is a supplement commonly used to improve liver function.

The caffeine content is considered a strong standard in the U.S., but the sugar content is quite high at 70g.
Overall, it feels like the energy ingredients are rather stimulating.

Only 10% Juice

Despite being part of the juice series, it only contains 10% fruit juice.
The ingredients include pomegranate and apple juice.

The drink is heavily colored, and it seems that Red 40 dye is used. Red 40 is a common food and beverage coloring, but it caused some issues in the UK a while ago. There have been reports of allergic reactions, and one site humorously mentioned that it was approved in the U.S. due to pressure, which made me chuckle.

Since ROCKSTAR JUICED Pomegranate is an older product, the ingredient concerns may not have been as scrutinized or as important back then.
Looking at newer products, the growing health-conscious trend is definitely noticeable, and the existence of older energy drinks like this one is rather interesting.
