ROCKSTAR ORGANIC STRAWBERRY
This is a review of ROCKSTAR ORGANIC STRAWBERRY, released in Germany in the summer of 2016.
At that time, only ROCKSTAR ORGANIC ISLAND FRUIT was available in the U.S. as part of the organic series. With the release of ROCKSTAR ORGANIC STRAWBERRY, Germany became the first market where the ROCKSTAR ORGANIC line was expanded into a series.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of ROCKSTAR ORGANIC STRAWBERRY
The moment I opened it, I was surprised by the unexpectedly rich strawberry aroma.
When poured into a glass, it’s completely clear. Both the Island Fruit and this Strawberry flavor from Germany’s Rockstar Organic line are colorless and transparent, showing no signs of added coloring. It feels a bit odd that it’s colorless, considering how strong the strawberry scent is. (;´∀`)
Now, let’s taste it.
Despite the strong aroma, the strawberry flavor itself is very faint. It has a mild sweetness and a light, subtle profile. The strawberry scent fades quickly, leaving only a slight sweetness and some residual sensation in the aftertaste.
It feels more like a refreshing flavored water. Depending on your preferences, you might find it either too light or pleasantly refreshing.
Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR ORGANIC STRAWBERRY
Contains 160mg of caffeine and 2mg of guarana. As this is an organic product, it lacks the usual energy drink ingredients. It makes you wonder if you can even call this an energy drink.
Design of ROCKSTAR ORGANIC STRAWBERRY
The woodgrain pattern is beautiful, and the balance of red and wood texture is surprisingly nice.
The "BiO" mark is a German organic certification, indicating that the product meets certain standards for organic agricultural and processed goods. Using typical energy drink or juice ingredients would disqualify it from displaying the BiO mark. In the U.S., organic products feature the USDA mark, which also certifies that the product meets strict organic standards.
The tab features a red Rockstar logo. Very nice! I like how the entire color scheme is cohesive. Compared to the rich-colored tabs on Germany's Organic Island Fruit flavor, this design feels more unified.
Germany vs. U.S. Strawberry Comparison
About a year after Germany’s release, in the spring of 2017, the U.S. also launched an organic strawberry flavor. So, let’s compare the two. Since Germany’s version came first, we’ll treat it as the original.
The color is completely different. The U.S. version is a cloudy yellow, similar to their Island Fruit flavor. Unlike Germany’s clear organic flavors, the U.S. version appears to be deliberately tinted yellow.
The taste is also quite different. The U.S. version has a stronger flavor, making it more recognizable as “strawberry,” and it feels more like a proper strawberry drink compared to Germany’s subtle version. However, it has a very peculiar bitterness that makes it hard to finish. (ヽ´ω`)
That bitterness is overpowering, almost making it feel like a failed recipe. Despite trying several cans with different designs, the bitterness was always so strong that I couldn’t finish half the can. Σ(´∀`;)
Regarding volume, Germany’s can is a full 500ml, while the U.S. can, despite being labeled as a standard 473ml size, contains only 444ml—an unusual volume. That’s more than a 10% difference, yet the price is nearly the same, with Germany’s version sometimes being even cheaper.
When I first tasted the German version, I thought it would be a short-lived product. So, I was surprised when the U.S. version appeared later. However, with such a questionable flavor profile from Rockstar U.S., I wonder how long their version will last...
