This is the 2021 reformulated product, ROCKSTAR PUNCHED LIME FREEZE, which transitioned from the Freeze series to the Punch series. (As a result, the Freeze series has been discontinued.)

Though it has been integrated into the Punch series, the energy ingredient composition remains the same as the original Freeze series. It’s the only product in the U.S. Punch series that contains 160mg of caffeine, continuing the Freeze series legacy while being sold as a unique product. This outcome is likely due to the integration of the two series without changing the ingredient composition.

When I open the can, I immediately smell a distinct lime fragrance, and the liquid inside is the same cloudy, Pocari-like color as the previous Lime Freeze. Let's take a sip.

Upon tasting it, the sourness of lime pulp fills my mouth.

The sweetness from the sugar softens the acidity just enough, creating a well-balanced limeade-like flavor that is refreshing and quite satisfying.

Strictly speaking, it’s not exactly limeade, as it showcases the rich flavor and acidity of lime pulp, which is the signature taste of Lime Freeze. This is the unique deliciousness carried over from the previous version.

Although the sugar content has decreased from 64g in the 2015 version to 49g in 2021, the quality of the lime flavor remains just as good, so I’m sure you’ll still enjoy it with the current product.

With the growing health-conscious trend, the reduction in sugar is an inevitable shift, but the deliciousness remains unchanged, so you can confidently enjoy this lime flavor with a high level of satisfaction, just like the older version.

It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, milk thistle, ginseng, and guarana.

Typically, Rockstar’s Punch series in the U.S. contains 240mg of caffeine, but the old Freeze series had 160mg. Since the Lime Freeze was carried over from the old Freeze series, it maintains the original 160mg caffeine content.

This seems to be a considerate approach for those who enjoyed the Lime Freeze flavor and wanted a more moderate caffeine amount. Not everyone necessarily prefers higher caffeine, after all.

In the new Punch series, the can is filled with various designs, including eagles, and honestly, it's unclear what exactly represents the Punch series in the design.

There’s no specific imagery that suggests the flavor for each variant, as the design is common across the Punch series, with only the color changing.

At the top of the can, the caffeine content is listed. As you can see, Lime Freeze is the only one marked as “160mg.” When the can is facing forward, neither the flavor name nor the product name is visible. It’s impossible to know what flavor it is just by looking at the front.

This design flaw came about after Rockstar made a complete redesign of their entire product line. It’s hard to understand what the brand wanted to convey with this new approach.

Since Rockstar experienced a sharp decline around 2020 and has already fallen out of the top 3 in the U.S., it would be great if they could refresh their product designs and bring back a product with the strong brand presence they once had.
