The oldest flavor in the ROCKSTAR PURE ZERO series, ROCKSTAR PURE ZERO PUNCHED, has been revamped with an even more straightforward name. This happened after PepsiCo's acquisition of Rockstar.

Since 2021, there has been a steady stream of new flavors in the PURE ZERO series. In the U.S., zero sugar has become the standard, and as a result, the series has expanded there.

Now, I’ll be reviewing this long-selling flavor, which has been consistently available for nearly 20 years, even before the zero-sugar era became the norm.

Upon opening the can, a strong, sweet and sour fruit punch aroma fills the air. The presence of the scent is so pronounced that it’s hard to believe you’re about to drink a zero-sugar beverage. The color of the liquid is a light pink, reminiscent of a diluted full-sugar fruit punch, signaling that it's a zero-sugar version.

This drink contains 240mg of caffeine, taurine, milk thistle, ginseng, and guarana. Since it has a relatively high caffeine content, you might want to avoid drinking other energy drinks, coffee, or green tea after consuming a PURE ZERO.

The can has a white and silver base with red accents that represent the fruit punch flavor. It’s very simple, and the design no longer reflects the pre-PepsiCo acquisition look, which included the rough texture of the can.

Moreover, when the Rockstar series is displayed on store shelves, it becomes harder to distinguish the flavor, leaving it unclear what flavor the product is. After the acquisition, the design seems to have deteriorated noticeably.

Minor Design Change in 2023 to Make the Flavor Name Visible

Starting in 2023, a minor design update was introduced. The "caffeine content" that used to be displayed on the front of the can is now replaced by the flavor name, which is placed in smaller text. (Unfortunately, the text is too small, making it hard to recognize at a glance.)

As a continuation of the previous version, this is a well-crafted zero-sugar fruit punch. It’s a staple product, and it could certainly be considered a classic. If only the design could return to something more recognizable, it would be perfect.
