The moment I opened the can, I was greeted with the rich scent of citrus that instantly lifted my spirits. Wait... this is a zero-zero drink, right?! The aroma is so strong, I was a bit confused, haha.

When poured into a glass, it retains its transparency with a rich artificial orange color. In the US, you can find large bottles of cheap orange soda that resemble this color for about a dollar, and I personally can't get enough of this cheap, American-style vibe, haha.

As I took a sip, the tartness hit my palate, followed by the smooth sweetness of orange. There is absolutely no hint of a zero-zero feel... In fact, it doesn't have the lightness that typical zero drinks do... this was my first impression. I could hardly believe it (*´艸｀*)

No matter how many times I drank it, I kept doubting that it was a zero-zero drink because of its strong flavor. The rich orange aroma and the almost heavy sweetness gave it a smooth, sweet mandarin-like taste, and there was no trace of the usual zero-zero taste. I was even shocked when the aroma strongly lingered in my stomach after drinking it (^_^;)

As you can imagine from the color, this is not a realistic orange fruit flavor; instead, it's an artificial "this is what a non-juice orange soda tastes like" flavor. What's amazing is that there’s no unpleasant aftertaste from artificial sweeteners, and the taste is surprisingly delicious for a zero-zero drink. I don’t think I’ve had a zero-zero energy drink with such strong flavor before.

When chilled to an icy cold, I did notice a slight aftertaste of artificial sweetener, but for most people, I don't think they'll notice it at all. It’s interesting that they steered away from a realistic fruit flavor and went in this direction.

However, the fact that they managed to create this cheap, sweet orange flavor with zero sugar and without the usual artificial sweetener taste is quite remarkable. The Pure Zero series has always had high-quality drinks, but I think this Orange Mandarin is the best one yet (*´ｪ`*)

Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR PURE ZERO ORANGE MANDARIN

It contains 240mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, ginseng, guarana, milk thistle, and more. It follows the standard Rockstar energy blend. Of course, it’s sugar-free and calorie-free.

For those who drink energy drinks and coffee daily, 240mg of caffeine might be a bit much.

Design of ROCKSTAR PURE ZERO ORANGE MANDARIN

The older Pure Zero cans featured a rough-textured surface, but starting with the 2016 Pure Zero Lemonade, the cans were changed to a smooth, standard design.

However, with this latest Pure Zero Orange, the texture has returned to the rough surface. When I bought it, I didn’t notice at all because I thought this was just the usual feel. Pure Zero is just better with the rough texture (*´ｪ`*)

I bought this one in the Midwest, in Detroit. The one I reviewed has a silver top, but on the same day, an energy drink traveler in LA on the West Coast got a black-top version, so it’s interesting to see how the design changes depending on the region (ｕ_ｕ*)

After Detroit, I’ll be heading to Chicago, which is also in the Midwest, so I’m guessing there won’t be a black top there either—probably silver, just like here(´・ω・｀). Having multiple designs since its launch around 2016 has become a trademark, and it’s fun to collect them! ((o(´∀｀)o))
