Released in the U.S. in 2015 and later launched in Canada, the ROCKSTAR PURE ZERO WATERMELON flavor has made a limited return in Canada.

While the U.S. has not brought back the watermelon flavor, a new watermelon-kiwi mix flavor has been introduced instead, as seen in this watermelon and kiwi mix.

On the other hand, Canada has brought back the classic watermelon flavor. Having compared the U.S. and Canadian versions back in 2015, I can confirm that the Canadian version of the watermelon flavor was superior in terms of overall taste. So, it’s no surprise that Canada is getting a revival of this great flavor. Now, let’s dive into the newly updated zero-sugar watermelon flavor.

Many watermelon flavors tend to lean toward a strawberry-like taste, but the PURE ZERO WATERMELON version from Canada in 2015 was already great at capturing the true watermelon flavor. This revived version continues to deliver a high-quality watermelon flavor that you could confidently call watermelon juice.

And the best part? It’s zero sugar. I don’t taste any of the unpleasant artificial sweeteners that sometimes show up in other drinks.

The aftertaste is refreshing, leaving very little residue, and the smooth, watery mouthfeel makes it easy to drink.

In Canada, even within the same series, the energy ingredients can vary greatly by flavor. This version, in particular, has a notably low amount of taurine.

This is a completely different impression from the bold red design of the 2015 watermelon flavor. Which one do you think better represents the watermelon flavor?

One downside of the revived design is that the flavor name is not listed prominently on the front of the can, which makes it harder to identify the flavor in-store.

In particular, since Canada requires both English and French to be included, this design with the oversized star logo makes it impossible to fit all the necessary information—brand name, series name, and flavor—on the front. Personally, I’m looking forward to a full redesign of this packaging.
