ROCKSTAR REVOLT KILLER GINGER

Posted on March 5, 2020 | Last updated February 8, 2025

ROCKSTAR REVOLT KILLER GINGER
The Rockstar Revolt series, Killer Ginger, was released in Germany in 2018.

Rockstar with ginger flavor made its debut in Australia and later launched in the U.S., and finally made its way to Germany. Surprisingly, it has become a long-lasting favorite and has established itself as a classic flavor.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of ROCKSTAR REVOLT KILLER GINGER

ROCKSTAR REVOLT KILLER GINGER
Upon opening, a distinct ginger ale aroma bursts out. However, there’s no sharp pungency, and it seems more like a subtle ginger scent added for flavoring.

Taking a sip, it’s clear that this is a sweet ginger ale flavor with zero spiciness or sharpness. Even someone like me, who isn’t a fan of spicy flavors, can easily drink it, so if you were expecting a kick from Killer Ginger, you’ll be disappointed (^_^;)

With no ginger bite, a mild carbonation, and a high proportion of artificial sweeteners, it doesn’t have a particularly satisfying sweetness, leaving a somewhat middle-of-the-road impression.

It feels more like a sweet lemonade with a hint of ginger flavor. The scent is strong, but overall, it feels a bit lacking.

This type of drink is better enjoyed ice-cold, as adding plenty of ice enhances the refreshment and makes it taste better. If it’s at a lukewarm or halfway chilled temperature, it might be tough to even finish half of it Σ(´∀`;)

It’s not bad by any means, but it has a flavor that makes you tire of it quickly. If you ask if I like it or not, I’d probably say "neither," but if you ask whether I’d repeat it or not, I’d say it’d be a pretty divided response.

Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR REVOLT KILLER GINGER

Contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 120mg of glucuronolactone, 50mg of guarana, and 50mg of ginseng.

Surprisingly, it has a very energy-drink-like composition. I didn’t expect such a variety of ingredients. Despite the effects being uncertain, it’s refreshing to see an energy drink that doesn’t cut corners, as many of them these days do.

Design of ROCKSTAR REVOLT KILLER GINGER

The gold camouflage pattern with a smooth texture on the can’s surface is striking. The Revolt series always looks cool, no matter the color combinations, but the combination of gold and black with white that seems to pop is almost unfairly cool!

However, the Big Star design is a bit too simple, and from the front, it feels a bit sparse, almost cheap. You wouldn’t even know it’s the series name unless you tilt it... This is the downside of the universal Big Star design.

The Revolt series in Germany has been using the Big Star design since the release of the Killer Citrus variant, and it’s been a bit sparse each time. This is now the global standard Rockstar design, which is kind of scary.

Killer Ginger has been a staple product for over two years now. I hope it survives until the next design update... I’d love to see Killer Ginger with a design that isn’t Big Star.
