In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Taste of Rockstar Sparkling H2O Blueberry & Acai
Finally, the second flavor from Rockstar Japan has been released: the Sparkling Series H2O. It's so clear that the carbonation bubbles look beautiful...
The sweet scent of blueberry gently wafts through. It’s quite different from the clear appearance.
However, when it comes to taste, it’s quite light, just as its clear appearance suggests. The main flavor, blueberry, isn’t as prominent as the scent. There’s a bit of acai-like aftertaste, but it disappears quickly without lingering.
It might be easier to think of it as a cider with lightly added blueberry and acai flavors. The mouthfeel is very refreshing, but the sugary aftertaste of the cider lingers just a bit, which might feel a little heavy.
These subtle flavors, lightness, and aftertaste align with the North American version, so it’s safe to say that this is the unique finishing style of Rockstar’s Sparkling Series. Since it’s the second release in Japan, I think a punchier flavor would have been better. (;´∀`)
Energy Ingredients of Rockstar Sparkling H2O Blueberry & Acai
The caffeine content feels a bit low at 80mg.
Other energy ingredients include 25mg of carnitine, 25mg of ginseng extract, and 25mg of guarana extract, which is a typical combination, though the amounts are quite small.
With this flavor, I feel it could even work as a zero-calorie drink, but it does pack some sugar and calories. It might be good for hydration and an energy boost in the morning.
What is Rockstar Sparkling H2O?
The packaging is almost the same as the North American ROCKSTAR SPARKLING Cherry Citrus, with H2O written on the design. Unfortunately, the pull tab is just a plain silver, which is disappointing.
In fact, the same H2O-named product is also available in Germany. In addition to the blue, there is also an orange version, and the flavors are different from both the North American and Japanese versions. It’s rare to see different flavors in the same series across countries.
There’s a possibility that other countries will release different flavors in the Rockstar Sparkling H2O series in the future. ((o(´∀`)o))
By the way, the Japanese Rockstar Sparkling Energy H2O Blueberry & Acai is currently available exclusively on Amazon Japan. Currently, it seems to be available only through Amazon, and it might be discontinued once the stock runs out. If it becomes popular, there’s also the possibility that it will be made available in general distribution. Let’s look forward to it.
*Update*: Initially available exclusively on Amazon, but it was later sold at a discounted price at Jason’s, and Rockstar Sparkling H2O Blueberry & Acai has now been discontinued. Also, the Japanese Rockstar brand itself has been discontinued.
