ROCKSTAR SUPER SOUR STRAWBERRY
This is the Strawberry flavor from the Rockstar Super Sour series, released exclusively in Spain in 2016. The pink-colored Super Sours made the series more vibrant and colorful. By the way, in Spain, a lime-flavored Super Sour series with a green color was also released.

In 2017, Canada also launched a Strawberry flavor in the same Super Sours series. At Energy Drink Mania, we’ve treated the Spanish Strawberry, which was released first, as the original product, and the later Canadian version, with a slightly different taste, was reviewed as a follow-up.

Flavor of ROCKSTAR SUPER SOUR STRAWBERRY

Upon opening the can, a rich, sweet aroma resembling strawberry jam bursts out. It has a unique jam-like scent made from concentrated strawberries and added sugar.

When poured into a glass, it takes on a bright, transparent pink, matching the can color perfectly – it looks great!

The taste, however, is slightly different from the strawberry jam scent. In fact, it doesn’t really taste like strawberries at all. It’s a carbonated drink made with no sweetness and only intense sourness. The strong sourness, combined with the rich strawberry scent, makes it feel like a strawberry-flavored drink. When chilled, the strawberry-like sweetness mostly disappears, so it seems best enjoyed at room temperature.

It seems like they’ve tried to balance it with strawberry fragrance alone, but as a strawberry-flavored beverage, it’s quite lacking. The Super Sour series generally features flavors with intense sourness, so this might be expected, but for those looking to truly enjoy a strawberry flavor, this will probably feel off-putting.

In Spain, it underwent a design renewal and became a big star, but it appears to have been discontinued in 2019.

Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR SUPER SOUR STRAWBERRY

It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 50mg of ginseng, 50mg of guarana, and more in its energy blend.

The energy ingredients are typical of Rockstar’s energy blend, but I was surprised to find it contains 71g of sugar, which is quite a lot.

Canada’s ROCKSTAR SUPER SOUR STRAWBERRY

In 2017, Canada also released a Strawberry flavor, so I wanted to review that as well.

Upon opening, the aroma is exactly like strawberry jam, which I believe is similar to the Spanish version’s scent.

The taste is different from the Spanish version, and you can really enjoy a solid strawberry flavor. The sourness isn’t as intense, and the taste is more like sweet and sour strawberry candy. It tastes more like strawberry juice, so the Canadian version is definitely a higher level than the Spanish version.

Even the Canadian version doesn’t have the real taste of strawberry flesh or its acidity and sweetness, so it’s not trying to be a realistic strawberry flavor. However, it is undoubtedly more fitting to be called a strawberry flavor than the original Spanish version. Given that the Canadian version has been continuously sold since its release, I think it must have had a good amount of sales.

When I first saw the Spanish Strawberry, I was struck by the pink-based Super Sours design. There wasn’t anything like this in the Super Sours range before.

Later, in 2017, it was released in Canada, first in limited stores and regions, but now it’s sold nationwide. When lined up, the Canadian version feels more like strawberry, with the green representing the strawberry’s stem, creating a more natural color combination. At Energy Drink Mania, we treat the Spanish version as the original, but visually, the Canadian version looks more natural.

And Canada uses a pink logo tab. There are also black tab versions, but since they’ve used green in the can design, a green logo tab might have made it even more strawberry-like.
