Flavor of ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED BLUEBERRY
Upon opening, a fresh blueberry juice scent bursts out. When poured into a glass, the color surprises me with its bright, cloudy light blue, which is quite different from the expected blueberry scent. Now, let's give it a taste.
Upon tasting, the mouthfeel is very subtle, almost like the flavor of dragon fruit—an almost flavorless taste with little to no distinct sweetness or sourness. I understand that the idea of "flavorless taste" may be hard to grasp, but for those unfamiliar, I recommend trying dragon fruit. This is exactly the taste of ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED BLUEBERRY.
Contrary to the blueberry aroma, it lacks both sweetness and acidity, leaving only a slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Whether this bitterness is from hemp seed or artificial sweeteners is unclear, but it seems like a flavor that could divide opinions. Personally, I find it akin to a natural, mild astringency, so I don't mind it.
Despite the strong blueberry fragrance and the typical energy drink color, the taste is light, almost like a flavored water. For many who expect bold flavors in energy drinks, it might feel a bit lacking.
I believe ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED is not intended for those who typically drink traditional energy drinks. With its combination of hemp seed oil, zero sugar, and zero calories, along with the design of the can, it feels more like a trendy, chill beverage. Given that perspective, it's no surprise that the flavor is mild and natural, rather than rich.
Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED BLUEBERRY
Contains 80mg of caffeine. While not an energy ingredient, hemp seed oil, a unique feature of the ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED series, is also included.
Hemp seed oil is different from CBD and THC, and it is often used in branding health-conscious or natural products, without providing any specific effects. It's safe to consider it as such.
Since most people cannot discern the difference, there was a statement on the can indicating that it does not contain THC, which is a common concern.
Design of ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED BLUEBERRY
The slim 355ml white can and the blue flavor color create a striking combination. At the top of the front of the can, the bold "HEMP SEED" text stands out.
In the US, Rockstar's standard size is 473ml, but for this ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED series, it comes in a slim 355ml can. The white base gives it a clean, fresh feel, a departure from the dark, intense vibe of traditional energy drinks.
The 355ml white energy drink format reminds me of the popular Celsius series, which gained explosive popularity in the US. It gives off a similar vibe.
Hemp products are trendy right now, and I initially thought this would never become a staple product, just a passing fad. And it seems I was right—after about a year since its release, ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED was discontinued. Despite the surge of hemp-related products around the world, it appears that in the US, where ROCKSTAR UNPLUGGED was launched, it did not gain much popularity. According to one survey, less than 2% of people purchased CBD-infused beverages in the past three months.
