In 2019, Rockstar renewed its Vodka series with the Fruit Punch flavor. The energy ingredients that were previously included are now gone, making it a regular punch-flavored vodka.

A bright red fruit punch with a rich color. At first glance, it looks like just a regular fruit punch, but the strong aroma of vodka is present.

When you take a sip, the sweet fruit punch flavor is combined with the heavy punch of vodka, creating a more robust and fuller drink. This isn’t something you’d chug down quickly, but rather something to sip and enjoy.

The vodka somewhat overpowers the sweet and tangy fruit punch flavor, making it hard to truly appreciate the fruit punch itself. It seems that the punch flavor was added to mask the vodka taste and make it easier to drink.

Personally, I think a regular fruit punch without vodka would be better. While I do like fruit punch flavors, Rockstar’s vodka punch feels a bit different from what I expected. (^_^;)

Since the 2019 renewal of the Rockstar Vodka series, the energy ingredients have been removed. As you can see, it’s now just a vodka-based alcoholic beverage.

Previously, the energy ingredients weren’t very substantial, just a small amount of caffeine and other elements, so the change isn’t that drastic.

The can features a large, bold "Straight Star" and prominently displays the 6.9% alcohol content, with a color scheme that represents red punch. The previous vodka punch designs with the "Big Star" logo were a bit tacky, but the shift to the "Straight Star" has definitely made it look cooler.

The bottom of the can also features a note that this is "not an energy drink."

Since Rockstar is known for its energy drinks, it’s clear they’re stating that this is an alcoholic beverage and not an energy drink. In western Canada, alcohol is not sold in supermarkets or convenience stores, so it's probably redundant to mention, but it's still there for clarity.

Comparison of 6.9% Vodka and 5.4% Alcorizé

The Rockstar Vodka reviewed here is available in western Canada, while in the eastern regions, a similar product called "Alcorizé" is made using malt instead of vodka.

There are differences in alcohol content and some design variations.

In terms of flavor, the Alcorizé seems to let the fruit punch flavor shine through more, likely because the malt and alcohol content are lower. It offers a refreshing taste with hints of cherry-like acidity, and the malt flavor lingers gently after drinking.

On the other hand, the 6.9% vodka is much stronger and tends to overpower the fruit punch, making the vodka flavor stand out more than the fruit punch. Comparing the two from east to west, it's clear they are two completely different drinks due to the differences in alcohol content.

If you want to enjoy the punch flavor, go for the Alcorizé; if you want a stronger alcoholic kick, the vodka version is your choice.
