ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI
The European version of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE, with blueberry, pomegranate, and acai flavor.
The American version of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE, which was released first, did not continue as a series and ended after just one flavor. However, in 2013, after the release of the BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI flavor in Europe, it became part of a colorful series, with each European country offering its own unique flavors.
*Note: Since 2018, the XDURANCE series in the U.S. has been revamped into a fitness-oriented series, with high-caffeine energy drinks. However, the European XDURANCE series has maintained its original form, preserving the true XDURANCE brand.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI
Opening the can releases a rich blueberry and grape-like sweet aroma. It’s so intense, it makes you wonder if it contains fruit juice, and it really builds up anticipation ((o(´∀`)o))
When poured into a glass, the color is a slightly cloudy reddish-purple. It retains a slight transparency, and I really like how the cloudiness gives the impression of freshly squeezed fruit.
Though the flavor name is the same as the American version of XDURANCE, the U.S. product is low-calorie, while the European version contains a hefty 60g of sugar, so they can be considered quite different.
The first sip brings a rich blueberry sweetness, followed by a pleasant tartness and slight bitterness. Although it doesn’t contain any fruit juice, the blueberry flavor is exceptional, with a hint of pomegranate tartness that makes it incredibly delicious (●´ω`●)
I must say, plenty of sugar is definitely the key. It has a depth of flavor far superior to its American counterpart. It doesn’t have a super refreshing aftertaste, but the lingering bitterness and tartness leave a satisfying impression.
I’m not entirely sure if the acai flavor is accurately recreated, but as a blueberry flavor, I think it’s on par with Red Bull’s Blue Edition in terms of quality and is one of the best-tasting energy drinks. I’ve tried products from the Czech Republic, Spain, the UK, Russia, Mexico, Australia, and Germany, and they’ve all been delicious. No matter which country you’re in, this is a must-buy drink.
Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI
This product is sold across Europe, but the one I reviewed is from the Czech Republic, so here’s the energy content for that version.
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 100mg of taurine, 50mg of guarana, and 150mg of BCAA. This version happens to have an unusually low amount of taurine, but in most other countries, the standard amount is 2000mg. (It would’ve been better to review the standard version (^_^;))
Design of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI
The ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI helped launch the colorful XDURANCE series across Europe.
The combination of the black top, the main blue color, and the black bottom is just too cool. It’s a design that works perfectly for a wide range of color schemes. While XDURANCE in the U.S. was discontinued after just one flavor, in Europe, it expanded to five flavors (with one added in 2018). The release of the 250ml can shows that the XDURANCE series has enjoyed a certain level of popularity.
Now, it’s available in many European countries, as well as Mexico and Australia, allowing people worldwide to enjoy the rich berry mix flavor.
BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI is often used for special edition cans in collaborations across countries, which is why it has a strong fan base. As of 2019, it remains a big star in the energy drink world, with ongoing sales and frequent special edition cans, making it a fun flavor to look out for (*´ェ`*)
Though XDURANCE in the U.S. has been revamped into a high-caffeine product, in other countries, the demand for high-caffeine energy drinks has not yet peaked, so the original XDURANCE series may continue as it is.
The Czech version of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI features a black top and a black logo tab. While there are versions with a silver top, the black top version has a cool, sharp look.
Tasting Comparison of 3 Countries
I’ve tried nearly every version of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE ACAI from different countries, but I’ve already finished most of them, so I only had three cans left to compare: from Australia, the UK, and Spain.
The colors are almost identical, but the transparency varies. From left to right: Australia (manufactured in February 2019), the UK (manufactured in January 2018), and Spain (manufactured in November 2015). The Australian version has a higher transparency compared to the two European versions. Also, the European versions seem to have a stronger aroma, possibly due to the deeper color.
It might be easier to tell when looking at them from above.
The Australian version on the left is clear, so it gives off a more juice-like, artificial feeling. On the right, the Spanish version has bubbles that take a while to settle, a common trait of older batches (^_^;)
The flavor is the same for all of them, offering a rich berry sweetness with a pleasant tartness and slight bitterness. The ingredient amounts and compositions are almost identical, so you won’t notice much of a taste difference unless you compare them side by side.
However, after comparing these three, I found that the Australian version has a well-balanced taste, with the bitterness not being too overpowering, making it easy to drink. On the other hand, the European versions have stronger bitterness and a more complex flavor, which may feel a bit too heavy for some people to drink an entire 500ml can.
Perhaps it’s because I compared it to the well-balanced Australian version, but I found that the Australian drink offers a better balance of flavor and drinkability, making it easier to finish the large 500ml can without getting bored. Personally, I prefer the EU version, which I can enjoy more slowly at room temperature (*´艸`*)
Keeping stock for tasting comparisons can be risky due to the potential for degradation (the Spanish version was pretty old), but when I do get a chance to compare different versions from different countries, it’s always a fun discovery ( ´∀`)b
