Flavor of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE SUPER SOURS GREEN APPLE

It’s almost colorless and transparent. When the previous Super Sours Green Apple from the Super Sours series was released, it had a champagne-like color typical of apples. But with the XDURANCE series, it seems to follow the current trend of clear and colorless fitness energy drinks.

Upon tasting, the strong acidity and fresh apple scent immediately fill the mouth. The texture is a bit sticky, clinging to the tongue. This is probably the apple-like expression we’re going for? It’s not quite the smooth texture, but rather a more substantial apple juice-like experience.

However, the sweetness is almost nonexistent. Usually, a moderate acidity makes the artificial sweetener’s taste stand out, but here, with the extreme focus on acidity, it doesn’t bother me at all. The apple scent and acidity, with that lingering tangy feeling, make it feel as though actual apple juice is involved, which is quite intriguing.

It truly recreates the intense, sour flavor of the original Super Sours Green Apple, and now with zero calories, this is a taste that fans will surely love.

Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR XDURANCE SUPER SOURS GREEN APPLE

It contains 300mg of caffeine, BCAAs, creatine, and CoQ10. The 300mg of caffeine is definitely intense. And for those who expect taurine in foreign energy drinks, it’s zero in this one. Since around 2016, taurine-free has become the norm.

But the energy ingredients’ structure… Rockstar has basically copied Bang’s formula here. If we’re being honest, it’s very Rockstar-like, but it’s just too much of a copy and lacks individuality (Σ´∀｀；).

The can is black with a combination of green and red. The impact is strong at the store with the bigger, more prominent design compared to the previous versions in the U.S.

This design will be updated a few months later, improving further. At this point, the new XDURANCE series, now high-caffeine, is undergoing its third design and formula update, switching to the third generation.

The second generation of XDURANCE can be said to have failed in terms of design. Even in various U.S. stores, the third generation’s design really stood out. So, let’s compare the new and old Green Apple versions as we dive deeper.

Comparing New and Old Green Apple

There’s no difference in color, but it seems like the new version has a stronger aroma.

There’s a more noticeable difference in taste. The old version was more focused on acidity, while the new version balances the acidity with a mellow flavor.

The unique flavor added to the new Green Apple reminds me of the sour apple flavors from Australia’s Super Sours Green Apple and 28 BLACK Sour Apple. When overdone, these flavors can become unpleasant. Both of those examples are a bit too much and not enjoyable (Σ´∀｀；).

In this XDURANCE version, the strange aroma was a bit overpowering at first, and I thought, “I won’t be able to stand this…” but since it was restrained, it didn’t turn into an overly artificial bad taste.

Before this, I never quite understood the peculiar off-flavor in green apple flavors used in overseas drinks.

However, with the third-generation Green Apple, this off-flavor is kept to a minimum, and I now realize it might be an attempt to replicate the apple fruitiness. Comparing it to the old version, the flavor's depth in the mouth and nose is very different with the addition of this subtle flavor.

The design is largely the same, but the “300mg” caffeine label is now bold and large, making it much clearer.

The old version’s caffeine label was too understated, which was a waste.

The side logo for the XDURANCE series is now larger, giving the design more contrast and making it easier to recognize as part of the fitness-focused brand.

Personally, I prefer the new design (the current one) as it fills in the unnecessary blank spaces.

It’s surprising to see the XDURANCE series change so quickly, both in terms of design and contents.
