Czech Republic's long-standing energy drink brand, SEMTEX, introduces SEMTEX CRAZY—a carbonated, classic-style energy drink.

Similarly, another leading Czech brand, BIG SHOCK, offers both carbonated and non-carbonated classic flavors. It seems that having both options has become the standard for top energy drink brands in the Czech market.

Carbonated SEMTEX Original

Upon opening, I was surprised by its classic energy drink aroma. Czech energy drink brands seem to follow a two-product strategy: an original non-carbonated version and a carbonated version of the same flavor.

The liquid inside is also the familiar golden yellow of classic energy drinks. Both its scent and color are unmistakably in the classic category.

Taking a sip, it has the familiar classic energy drink flavor, with a vitamin drink-like acidity and a chemical aftertaste. Although it's lightly carbonated, it still offers more refreshment than the non-carbonated version.

SEMTEX CRAZY isn't exactly the same as SEMTEX Original—perhaps due to the carbonation enhancing the flavor, it has a richer taste with a lingering acidity and aftertaste. SEMTEX Original, in contrast, has a smooth, residue-free texture, making it surprisingly easy to drink despite its classic flavor profile.

The can is labeled as "carbonated," while the original is clearly marked as "non-carbonated." It's interesting to see this clear choice being offered—something you don't often find in other countries.

I appreciate that SEMTEX CRAZY isn't just a carbonated version of the original but is actually adjusted for carbonation. I imagine local preferences in the Czech Republic are split between the two.

With its strong acidity and lingering aftertaste, SEMTEX CRAZY offers a more intense drinking experience. If you're used to Japan's classic energy drink flavors, you might find CRAZY more appealing.

The colorful paint splatter and SEMTEX's explosive logo make a bold impact. One of SEMTEX’s defining characteristics is its eye-catching color and design, which attracts many fans. Personally, I became hooked on SEMTEX when flavors like CRAZY and CACTUS were introduced.

When it comes to energy drinks, striking and impactful designs work best. Either a cool and simple design for staple products or a bold, over-the-top design for limited editions—having that contrast makes collecting and experiencing them even more exciting.

The black top with a green tab adds a nice touch. However, SEMTEX frequently changes its tab colors and designs, without a strong brand identity in that aspect. Since their can designs are already impressive, a more consistent tab design could elevate the brand even further.
