In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Shark Energy Drink
The color is a bright, radiant light gold. When poured into a glass, the vividness of the color is almost shocking.
As for the taste, it perfectly matches its striking appearance—both the sourness and sweetness are intense. It's rich, thick, and has a solid Mogu-Mogu texture (smooth and enveloping texture). The bold flavor makes it feel like it could instantly wipe away fatigue.
I find myself reaching for it from the fridge again and again, which speaks to just how addictive it is...
Shark has a rather thick, syrupy consistency, and with its strong aroma, it delivers a uniquely intense flavor experience. It might seem like a classic energy drink flavor at first, but once you take a sip, you’ll realize it’s not just a Red Bull imitation.
For some reason, Shark is quite expensive when sold in physical stores in Japan, but I highly recommend trying it at least once. If you buy a case on Rakuten, you can get it for around 120 yen per can, and it's also reasonably priced at Costco. ( ´∀`)bグッ!
Can Shark Energy Drink Indicate Changes in Your Condition?
According to the official Shark website:
*"If Shark tastes sweet, you're in good condition. If it tastes sour, you're feeling fatigued."*
Could this be related to citric acid?
In general, taste perception changes based on physical condition, so this might just be a fun way for people to get to know Shark better. Regardless, both its sourness and sweetness are intense, making it a polarizing drink. However, if you like classic energy drink flavors, you can’t go wrong with this one.
While it follows the classic profile, it also has a fruity touch, so if you enjoy bold flavors, there's a good chance you’ll love it. (●´ω`●)
Energy Ingredients of Shark Energy Drink
The caffeine content is relatively low, with guarana being the main stimulant, as highlighted on the official Shark website. Guarana is commonly included in energy drinks because it is absorbed more slowly than caffeine, providing longer-lasting effects.
Another notable ingredient is lysine, an amino acid. If you're familiar with supplements, you might recognize it, though it's not commonly found in energy drinks. The amount included likely isn’t high enough to have a major effect, but it's an interesting addition nonetheless.
Design of Shark Energy Drink Can
The white background with the blue "SHARK" logo, shaped like a shark, combined with the bold red "Energy Drink" text, creates a well-balanced and striking design. (*´ェ`*) Just seeing it, you instantly recognize it's Shark!
This iconic Shark logo is so well-designed that various Shark-branded merchandise has been released, all of which look both stylish and cool.
With its refreshing colors and icy aesthetic, it feels like the perfect drink for a lively summer beach party. ((o(´∀`)o))
Is Shark the Second Most Consumed Energy Drink in the World?
Shark’s official website has long claimed that it is the *"second most consumed energy drink in the world,"* which has been a mystery among energy drink enthusiasts.
Globally, Red Bull holds the undisputed #1 market share, followed by Monster, with Rockstar trailing behind. Shark does not rank among the top-selling energy drink brands worldwide.
However, since Shark originates from Thailand, it might make sense if the claim refers specifically to *Thai-born energy drinks* being the second most consumed worldwide. (^_^;)
