The SPIKE Energy Drink series, originating from Colorado, made its debut in the U.S. market around 2007. It became notorious after incidents where high school students drank it and were hospitalized due to feeling unwell.
Initially, the series was available in two sizes: SPIKE SHOOTER (250ml) and SPIKE SHOT GUN (500ml), with caffeine content of 300mg and 350mg, respectively, making it one of the first high-caffeine energy drinks. The 250ml size, which had the higher caffeine concentration, was later discontinued.
Due to problems with teenagers, including some bans on sales, the drink initially made its way into convenience stores like 7-Eleven, but eventually became harder to find. It is now mostly sold in specialty stores like GNC, though rarely.
Currently, SPIKE has been fully rebranded, with the 500ml size as its main product and is sold through a very limited distribution network.
