In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Too Sweet, It's No Longer Coffee
Although I knew it would be sweet, once I drank it, there was no trace of coffee at all. It’s just an endless creamy sweetness, and it's too sweet to drink at room temperature. Even when chilled, the rich sweetness doesn’t fade. If you like sweet, creamy coffee, this would be perfect. Since I’m not fond of milk-based sweetness, I can barely finish half of it as is. (^_^;) So, I recommend drinking it ice-cold.
Chill It To The Max!
So how cold should it be? Something like this. The official website shows it with a mountain of ice.
I tried adding about the same amount of ice. When I tried drinking it with the mountain of ice...
Oh, now it’s actually drinkable! It had been too sweet and hard to drink, but when it's super cold, there’s a refreshing sensation, and the sweetness obviously fades, so it tastes dramatically better. It seems like Starbucks energy drinks are best served with ice.
Starbucks Doubleshot Energy Vanilla’s Energy Ingredients
It contains 146mg of caffeine, 2000mg of maltodextrin, 1800mg of taurine, 325mg of ginseng, and 90mg of guarana. It’s a solid energy drink content-wise.
A Longtime Favorite: Starbucks Energy Drink
If you’re unaware, you might imagine a strange coffee just because it’s called "Starbucks Energy Drink." But in reality, it’s just a sweet coffee, and it’s been a long-time bestseller in the U.S. for almost 10 years. At nearly 400 yen per can, it’s not cheap, but for those looking for an easy way to get a sweet coffee with energy ingredients at a convenience store, this could be a good option.
Starbucks energy drinks come in various flavors and are part of a series. They have excellent brand recognition, so in the U.S., you can find them in almost any convenience store.
Incidentally, they’re sold in Canada as well, though there are fewer varieties. The Canadian version is notable for having both English and French on the packaging.
In both the U.S. and Canada, they’re placed in the same section as coffee, not the energy drink aisle, so be sure to look there.
