When poured into a glass, it looks almost non-carbonated due to the lack of bubbling. Although it is classified as a "carbonated drink," the absence of bubbles makes it feel closer to being almost flat, less than mildly carbonated.

When you take a sip, there’s a unique bitter and astringent taste that feels medicinal, combined with the sweetness of a traditional flavor. As you continue drinking, the bitterness and astringency intensify, and the aroma passing through your nose gives off a concentrated white grape flavor, not the typical traditional taste. The closer it gets to room temperature, the stronger the white grape flavor becomes. However, there is no sense of fruitiness or authentic fruit flavor.

It is neither the typical flavor nor the chemical-tasting one. It’s more like a children's cold medicine syrup, which could make it difficult for adults to continue drinking.

Like Rockstar Original, it might become an acquired taste the more you drink it. However, since the sweetness lacks sharpness, it leaves a lingering aftertaste. This is not a recommended drink if you’re looking to quench your thirst.

Energy Ingredients of STING Energy Drink GOLD RUSH (Malaysia)

The product itself didn’t list the amount of energy ingredients, but after some research, I found the manufacturer’s information. According to it, it contains 62.7mg of caffeine, 66mg of taurine, and ginseng extract.

By the way, STING is known for being very sugary, but this Malaysian version contains a typical 35g of sugar, which was a relief. The flavor itself doesn’t emphasize a strong sugary sweetness, so that seems to match.

I’m not a fan of PET bottles because they create a lot of waste once you finish drinking, which is why I had never purchased STING before.

In 2019, the STING Energy Drink GOLD was released in Japan, so I bought it to compare. If it hadn’t been released in Japan, I might have passed on it.

Up until then, I knew about STING, but the strong impression of the PET bottle made me uninterested. However, after this review, I started researching more, and I discovered that it’s a well-established energy drink brand widely known in Asia. The more I learned, the more I became fascinated. It wouldn’t be surprising if there were people who loved STING so much that they started collecting only STING products.

Since this product is for Malaysia, it comes with a halal certification mark.
