Upon opening, a sweet and rich aroma bursts out. It's definitely much stronger than the STING GOLD in Japan!

The color of the drink is a sparkling, rich gold. Even before drinking, the color and scent already give you a strong impression...

When you take a sip, there's zero acidity, a full-on sweetness, and a thick, fruity mixed flavor that is exactly what you would expect from a concentrated syrup-like taste. The sweetness and viscosity, reminiscent of mashed peaches, highlight the concentrated feel.

This isn't a natural fruit sweetness but rather a fruit mix flavor artificially created using sugar and aroma. Despite being carbonated, the syrupy liquid is so thick that it almost eliminates the carbonation's sharpness, which is quite surprising.

Normally, you'd find a slight acidity along with sweetness, but STING from Vietnam is all about the sweetness. It completely rejects natural flavors and aims for an exaggerated sweetness that surpasses what you'd expect from fruits in nature. It's rare to find such a sweet energy drink.

The STING Energy Drink GOLD in Japan is sweet too, but this one has a much stronger sweetness. I compared the two in my review of the Japanese STING, and the sweetness level of the Vietnam version is on a completely different scale.

Energy Ingredients of STING Energy Drink (Vietnam)

Contains 83mg of caffeine, 66mg of taurine, and ginseng.

However, what surprised me more than the energy ingredients was the 58g of carbohydrates. That's even more than the Japanese version, which was already shocking! And this drink costs only 55 yen! Σ(´∀｀；)

In 2022, the volume was slightly reduced to 320ml, but interestingly, the sugar content increased, ranging from 42-64g, surpassing the sugar content in previous STING versions.

The difference in formulation is notable, with a variance of over 20g, which is something to consider. I wonder why such a discrepancy exists...

Design of STING Energy Drink (Vietnam)

The gold STING is generally labeled as "GOLD RUSH," but there was no such mention on the Vietnamese product.

One of the features of the Vietnam version is the lightning bolt-like design, but there are also some thicker lines scattered throughout...

It’s possible they’re depicting ginseng roots.

The can also strongly hints at ginseng being a key ingredient...

No, actually, it's probably just a lightning bolt design. (^_^;)

It seems that many of the STING commercials from different countries feature a theme of electricity surging through them (except the Japanese version).

In Vietnam, both 330ml cans and 330ml PET bottles are sold.

Although it's unclear if they're still in production, there are also 250ml cans and 250ml glass bottles, showing that STING is a versatile energy drink brand.

Interestingly, the PET bottle bears the FDA logo from the United States.

The tab was a silver tab.

Being a long-standing PepsiCo brand, it would be nice to see more creative designs on the cans in the future.
