Sydney Energy Drink Trip 2017
About six months later, I returned to Sydney, and this time I was looking forward to enjoying the Australian summer! Not only was I excited about new flavors and designs, but I was also able to attend one of Sydney’s biggest events!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
New and Old Products Investigated on the Spot
This time, I stayed in an area separate from Sydney’s city center, including George Street, Hyde Park, and the Opera House. Changing up my stay and sightseeing areas each time is Drin-kun’s style. Even in the same city, there’s always something new to discover, and it’s always fun! (●´ω`●)
After dropping off my luggage at the hotel, I immediately set off to explore the surrounding area on foot while hunting for drinks. There are so many convenience stores, and I visited more stores than in the city. The stores in the city are too spread out, so it can be tiring to walk around, but in some areas, I was able to spot several stores in one glance.
First, I checked the selection at the nearest supermarket, Coles, looking for items near the lowest price. The selection at supermarkets is about what you’d expect. I think convenience stores in Sydney are better for experiencing more "overseas-style" energy drinks.
The Monster cans I didn’t buy last time were going for an amazing $4 for two, so I picked up an Original and Zero Ultra.
I tend to buy a lot more than usual, so Drin-kun’s style is to only buy cheap ones as needed. In Australia, you need to be careful with prices. For example, a can might be $3.98, but if you buy two, it could cost $5, which happens quite often. Saving is important!
As I ventured farther from the tourist areas, I came across several Rockstar campaign cans from early 2015 at a convenience store! (I bought one in good condition.)
This was a surprise. I had the impression that old items like this don’t last long in Australia. By the way, it was $5 per can. Expensive! w So I only bought one. (^_^;)
V Energy Drink is Truly Amazing!
While sightseeing in new areas and revisiting places I missed last time, I entered every supermarket and convenience store I could find, continuing to buy new flavors and campaign cans.
At some stores, I found a lot of X-MEN collaboration cans that had been released over six months ago. The HAWAII campaign cans were very rare, so completing the collection seemed impossible.
One product I was really focused on in Sydney was V Skills. Each can has a skill written on it, linked to video content. As a fan, I was determined to buy all of them!
Before heading to Sydney, I didn’t research the details, so I thought there would be about 12 different skills. However, I discovered there are actually 24 types, one for each size. I thought I’d buy a total of around 20 cans, including 500ml and 250ml sizes, but when I realized there were so many, it became difficult to carry them all, and the 250ml cans were over $3 each. So, I decided to focus only on collecting the 250ml cans.
After buying a lot of energy drinks and returning to the hotel, I quickly drank a cold V I had just purchased, and it felt a little more than the usual 250ml cans... When I looked closely, I realized it was a 275ml can! (ヽ´ω`)
I completely forgot about the 275ml size!
Wow, there are 24 types in 3 sizes... I was once again amazed by V’s incredible power. I’ll say it again, you won’t find anything like this in the energy drink world anywhere else!
You’ll realize how amazing V is once you visit Sydney. The variety at convenience stores, supermarkets, stores, and restaurants is astonishing.
Rockstar is colorful and stands out in Australia, but when you look carefully, the global giants in energy drinks seem to pale in comparison. By the way, Mother is well-known in Oceania, but I feel it’s impossible for one store to stock all the flavors. Anyway, the stock of V is insane.
I was also on the lookout for 355ml cans of Monster Original and Ab Zero, which I had skipped last time. After visiting two stores, I finally found some and picked up a few. $5 per can is expensive... By the way, the 355ml cans are quite rare and are considered a collectible item.
As I mentioned earlier, I found leftover X-MEN V cans, but generally, stores that sell items at higher prices (prices vary by store) tend to have unsold stock, so if you really want something, it’s better to buy it on the spot, even if it’s pricey.
Finally Made It to the Event I Wanted to Attend Since Last Year
After finishing most of the usual sightseeing, I participated in one of the largest LGBT events held a little outside of central Sydney! Since V Energy was one of the sponsors, V Rainbow cans were being handed out at the event.
I already had the Rainbow can, and it is actually sold in limited stores (although there aren’t many), but I felt it was important to experience the atmosphere and enjoy getting the sample at the event. I had been wanting to go since last year, so it felt like my wish had finally come true. (´∀`*)
The impact of this can alone is incredible, but seeing so many attendees walking around with the rainbow-colored V in hand was breathtaking. The promotion effect of V seems high, but it really matched the vibe of the event. V is the best! (*´艸`*)
The event itself was crowded, and since it was outdoors, it felt like a military base opening but with even more diverse energy. There were adult costumes, merchandise for sale, and handsome guys confidently showing off their perfect physiques... It was a lot of fun! People of all ages and families were there, and there were a variety of booths, from big companies to local zoos, so not everyone there was from the same crowd.
V Rainbow
While wandering around the venue, I found the V Rainbow distribution team at three different spots!
The quality of the V Girls was incredible. They must have been models! (The girl on the right) She looked like a living doll, even more impressive in person than in photos. (●´ω`●)
I had a blast exploring Sydney until I had to head to the airport. Naturally, I had trouble collecting all the V Skills, so I kept searching until the very end. Whether I completed the collection... I don’t have the energy to check yet, even after returning home.
Sometimes when I bought V from independent stores, they gave me a straw, making it easy to hydrate in the scorching Sydney heat. It’s expensive, though Σ(´∀`;)
This is the “God Seven,” where I secured a lot of Skills. Red Bull was surprisingly common here. By the way, I was able to buy the 355ml Summer Edition here. (´∀`*)
This was around the time when new designs for Mother started to be released, but I didn’t buy everything at once. However, it was a valuable experience to feel the high penetration rate of V at both stores and events. This is the true essence of being an energy drink traveler!
Looking forward to the next trip! ((o(´∀`)o))
