V ENERGY SUGARFREE

V Energy Sugarfree is the sugar-free version of V Energy, the top energy drink brand in Australia and New Zealand. Since I already drank the original design, I'll be reviewing the 21st-anniversary edition of V Energy Sugarfree instead.

The V Energy series previously included "V Energy Zero," a zero-sugar variant with almost the same ingredients as Sugarfree. However, in 2019, it was consolidated under the V Energy Sugarfree branding.

Artificial Sweetener Flavor with Pronounced Tartness of V Original

The aroma is almost identical to V Energy Original, featuring a tart and fruity scent.
V ENERGY SUGARFREE

The taste is distinctly that of artificial sweeteners. It combines the tartness of V Energy Original with the characteristic sweetness and synthetic chemical-like notes of artificial sweeteners, creating a flavor that clearly feels sugar-free.

V Energy’s signature tartness lingers in the aftertaste, along with the slight harshness of artificial sweeteners. It has a light and refreshing mouthfeel, making it a perfect choice for those who enjoy the crispness of sugar-free drinks. If you like Red Bull Sugarfree, you might find V Energy Sugarfree even more enjoyable than the regular V Energy Original.

On the other hand, if you dislike the taste of artificial sweeteners, you should probably go back to V Energy Original right away (^_^;) As for me, I’m not a fan of artificial sweeteners, so sugar-free drinks are just not for me.

Contains 155mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, 600mg of guarana, and 125mg of glucuronolactone.

Comparison Between Sugarfree and Zero

V Energy Zero, which has already been discontinued, had almost the same ingredient composition as the reviewed V Energy Sugarfree. Both shared the same concept of zero sugar. With nearly identical ingredients and taste, it’s unclear why both products were sold simultaneously. This time, I decided to compare them to see if there were any real differences.

The color is nearly the same—it’s safe to say there’s no visible difference.
V ENERGY SUGARFREE

In a taste comparison, V Energy Zero had a stronger sweetness, effectively masking the artificial sweetener flavor, while Sugarfree had a more subdued sweetness and did not attempt to conceal the artificial sweetener taste at all.

Both have the characteristic sugar-free flavor, and without directly comparing them, it might be hard to notice any difference. However, when switching between them, the contrast in sweetness and artificial sweetener intensity becomes quite apparent.

Personally, I preferred V Energy Zero, but perhaps it was discontinued because its sweetness didn’t quite fit the "zero" branding. Either way, between these two similar products, V Energy Sugarfree was the one that survived. Maybe its purer zero-calorie taste made it the more popular choice.
