In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of a Rich, Dense, and Bitter Fruit
The color of the liquid is brown, resembling cola, and the scent is the same fruity aroma as V ENERGY GRAPHITE.
When I take a sip, I experience a heavy, bitter taste. There’s a strong bitterness that I can’t quite place, followed by a sour-sweet fruit flavor that spreads. It’s different from the flavor of GRAPHITE, which was released around the same time. I thought it was just a Wolverine version of the same flavor, but I didn’t expect it to taste different.
The flavor is predominantly a rich, high-juice bitterness, with about 90% bitterness and a slight fruity, sour-sweet note lingering. It’s definitely a bitter flavor overall. Let’s compare it to the V ENERGY GRAPHITE, which was released in New Zealand last year.
Comparing WOLVERINE and GRAPHITE
On the left is the V ENERGY GRAPHITE, which was released first, and on the right is V ENERGY WOLVERINE. The color is exactly the same brown, so it’s hard to tell them apart. The scent is also the same fruity note, and when comparing the color and aroma, I honestly can’t tell any difference.
Let’s try tasting them.
While the appearance didn’t show any differences, when I tasted them side by side, I clearly noticed a difference. V ENERGY WOLVERINE also has a pomegranate flavor, but the freshness is more subdued, and it has a stronger, richer bitter taste.
Although V ENERGY GRAPHITE has some bitterness, V ENERGY WOLVERINE is about twice as bitter. It seems like it inherited the fruity pomegranate flavor from GRAPHITE, but with an intensified bitterness.
I didn’t expect there to be a flavor change even though the base flavor is the same.
Energy Ingredients of V ENERGY WOLVERINE
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 600mg of guarana, and 25mg of maca. The energy ingredients are the same as GRAPHITE, with the special addition of maca in thi
